Please help our daughter, Rebecca Berge

  • This fundraiser is for my daughter, Rebecca Berge. She has been a lifelong resident of Joseph City, AZ until moving to Ogden late last year. Everyone knows her as the super sweet person who worked at Mr. G's and Esther's. On September 4th, 2023 at approx 0623, Becca went into an unknown cause of sudden onset seizures. Her boyfriend of two years called 911. She eventually went to Ogden Regional Medical Center ER. Once evaluated she was admitted overnight in the MCU (A small step down from ICU at that time). She kept having seizures and medication wouldn't regulate it. While at ORMC she had a CT, EEG, EKG, and numerous blood tests. It was determined she needed upgraded care and was transferred via ambulance an hour away to St. Mark's Hospital in Salt Lake City. There she remained in ICU for an additional two days. She suffered 90 seizures in 24 hours, totaling over 180 in five days. These were determined to be non-epileptic seizures, which luckily didn't cause any permanent damage, and why she could have so many. It was horrific to watch her go through so much agony and pain while having these seizures. Her longest one was 13 minutes, which I thought I was going to lose her. Thirteen minutes is a lifetime when watching your child in such a state. But she persisted, she is strong. While at St. Mark's she had several dedicated nurses. They hooked her up to a constant 24 hr EEG recorded monitor in addition to live monitoring (took 2 hrs to put the leads on her), MRI, several more blood tests that were repeated a few times, constant monitoring of vitals, MRSA testing, and so much more. She also suffered "ICU Delirium" which was induced by meds, lack of sleep, pain and stress. At one point she literally cried for three hours straight because of this. She was deeply embarrassed and in constant tears for "inconveniencing" the nurses to change her bedpan and sheets while being so appreciative, showing her true character (they were amazing). After three days they released her for home care. Luckily she doesn't remember much about her stay in the hospital. During this time her boyfriend was fired from his job due to his FMLA request being denied because he wasn't "family or married" to her. He had taken time off to help her in the past, and to care for her before I could do the 600 mile drive to them. She also cannot work or drive for a few weeks, possibly more due to her recovery. With all the testing, the first ambulance call and later a long separate transport, hospital fees, dr's fees, we are expecting over $200k in medical bills. We do have insurance, but not sure how much it will cover. Regardless, there will be thousands in copays, plus living expenses now that their income has been dramatically reduced, in addition to lost wages. Thank you for any support, love sent and shares! *I tried to add video of her seizures but can't figure out how to do so*
