Please Help Our Daughter Amelia Get the Treatment She Desperately Needs ❤️
Hi, my name is Rasa, and I am fundraising for my beautiful 13-year-old daughter, Amelia, to receive specialist medical care in Barcelona.
We are a Lithuanian family who have been living in Ireland for the past 17 years. Ireland is our home, and we are raising our four beautiful daughters here. My husband and I are both hardworking, full-time working parents who do everything we can to give our children the best life possible.
Sadly, our middle daughter, Amelia, has been fighting a very difficult battle since she was just 4 and a half years old.
Amelia’s Story ❤️
It all started when we noticed that Amelia’s eyes would flicker for a couple of seconds. At the time, we had no idea these were seizures. We thought it might be some kind of tic. After our first visit to the neurologist, we received the devastating diagnosis of Jeavons syndrome, a rare form of epilepsy.
Until she was 8 years old, Amelia mainly experienced the typical eyelid-fluttering seizures associated with her condition. Then she had her first tonic-clonic seizure, and our family’s life changed completely.
Since then, we have been trying everything we can to get her seizures under control. Over the years, Amelia has tried many different anti-seizure medications and dosages, but sadly, nothing has managed to stop her tonic-clonic seizures.
Today, she is taking two different types of medication, yet the seizures continue.
We Are Fighting for Our Girl ❤️
As a parent, there is nothing more heartbreaking than watching your child suffer and feeling helpless because you cannot make it better.
Amelia’s condition is now affecting not only her physical health but also her mental health. She has been struggling emotionally and has been diagnosed with depression. She is working with therapists to help her cope with everything she is going through.
It is incredibly difficult to watch our happy, outgoing little girl struggle with so much at such a young age. Epilepsy has affected so many parts of her life, and we can see how much her condition and medication are impacting her overall well-being.
As parents, we worry constantly about her health, her happiness and her future. All we want is to see Amelia feeling better, feeling safe and being able to enjoy her childhood like other children her age.
We want her to have the opportunity to grow up, follow her dreams and live a happy and fulfilling life without constantly having to fight this battle.
That is why we feel we need to seek a second opinion and explore treatment options elsewhere.
We have contacted a specialist hospital in Barcelona, where we hope Amelia can receive a thorough reassessment, further testing and a review of her medication.
We understand that Jeavons syndrome is a lifelong condition, and we know there may not be a simple cure. We are not expecting miracles. We are simply asking for the chance to find the right treatment and give our daughter a better quality of life.
We want our girl to have the best possible chance of a brighter future. ❤️
Why We Need Your Help
The initial estimate we received from the hospital for the first consultation and tests, including an EEG, CT scan and genetic testing, is approximately €7,000.
This does not include flights, accommodation or other travel expenses.
My husband and I are both working full-time and doing everything we can for our family, but we simply do not have the savings to cover such a large amount.
That is why we are reaching out and asking for your help.
As parents, asking for help is not easy. We have always tried to work hard and provide for our children ourselves. But when it comes to Amelia's health and future, we want to explore every possible opportunity to help her.
Every donation, no matter how small, will bring us one step closer to getting Amelia the specialist care she needs.
If you are unable to donate, sharing our story with your friends and family would mean just as much to us. Even a simple share could help our story reach someone who may be able to help.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for taking the time to read Amelia’s story, for caring about our daughter and for helping us fight for her future.
We are not asking for a perfect life. We are asking for the chance to help our daughter live one. ❤️
With love and gratitude,
Rasa and family ❤️
