Hello all, my name is Aisha De Silva and I am the eldest daughter of Asurumunige Sarath De Silva (AKA Silver, Silva) and my reason for starting this GoFundMe is to try to raise funds to help our daddy beat cancer and to at least ease his financial burden. Our family had gotten the news that our dad was diagnosed with cancer back in March of this year and it has taken quite a toll on not only my dad but our family as well.
He has been doing chemotherapy every week since then, but unfortunately, he’s currently stage 4 for a rare type of cancer called Cholangiocarcinoma. I talked to his doctor and the cancer had started in his gallbladder, but as of last week, it’s spread to his liver and stomach. Not only are the treatments hard on his body, but the cancer has caused fluid to form in his legs and lungs. He’s having difficulty breathing, eating, and walking, and has been going in and out of the hospital for the past few months. The worst part is the immense pain he has all over his body due to this terrible disease.
According to his doctor, the only thing they can do to help him is to continue Chemotherapy to prevent the cancer from spreading further, but they do not know how much time my dad has left. We’ve decided to have my parents go back to their home country and alongside Chemotherapy to also try Easten medicines to see if they can ease his suffering and better his current condition.
As those of you know my dad, he’s a hardworking, funny, kind, and simple kind of man. My dad is a father of 4 kids, he’s also our family’s main breadwinner and a tough cookie. To witness his suffering is rather terrifying, which is all the more reason we want to do something to help him. The funds that are being raised will go towards further treatments and medicines, as well as the costs of transportation, food, utility bills, and if outcomes do not end favorable, funeral costs.
