Please Help My Big Sister Beat Breast Cancer!
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Mary Pringle, and I am fundraising for my sister Katie Pringle who was recently diagnosed with breast cancer. In May 2022, Katie had a mammogram, which led to an ultrasound and a biopsy where they found Ductal Carcinoma in Situ (DCIS). At this time, an MRI was ordered, and another mass was found. This time it was Invasive Ductal Carcinoma (IDC). Our family has a history of breast cancer, striking our mother, grandmother, and aunts, and cousins, so this diagnosis is especially concerning. On September 26, 2022, Katie will undergo a bilateral mastectomy. Prognosis and further treatments are currently unknown, pending post-surgical pathology. Depending on these findings, there may be a need for radiation and/or chemo treatments. Katie is looking at three surgeries: bilateral mastectomy (9/26/22) and two reconstructive surgeries (TBD). To further complicate Katie’s diagnosis, she was born with Poland Syndrome, which is missing or underdeveloped muscles on one side of the body. Katie is missing a pectoral muscle which can complicate any reconstructive surgeries following her 9/26/22 surgery. The financial impact this diagnosis has had and will continue on Katie is immense. Katie is working but will soon be unable to do so for at least six weeks, longer when we consider reconstructive surgeries. There is no more paid time off. Appointments have depleted all. While FMLA will protect her job and insurance, she will need to continue to make medical insurance premium payments. Katie needs financial help with rent, food, car insurance, utilities, coinsurance, deductibles, incidentals, and post-surgical supplies. If you know Katie, then you know she has always been willing to spend her time helping others. She frequently offers her time to take care of our mother, help friends with projects, and coordinating events. Katie is often the one that plans the fun for all of us, one time creating an awesome on board scavenger hunt for a family cruise, complete with medals and trophies for the winners! Katie's positive attitude and spiritual fitness have really shown throughout this entire situation. I can only hope to have the same level of acceptance if I were in her shoes. Please help Katie in this time of need. Thank you!
