Our daughter Kaya was born with congenital hypothyroidism. She was diagnosed at 4 days old. Since her diagnosis, we have been tasked with taking her to multiple doctor appointments at least every couple of weeks. She has not responded to typical treatment, and as a result, her TSH and free T4 levels have never been normal. We have been trying to get her the best medical care from Stanford in CA and now OHSU Doernbecher Children's Hospital in Portland, OR. Since her levels have been off, she now has a heart murmur, anemia, and, pallid infantile syncope, a fainting disorder that could be seizures.
We are now faced with the issue of driving 500 miles there and back to her appointments for diagnostic testing. Fortunately, they allow us to stay at the Ronald McDonald House when we need to travel there. This cost has put a tremendous strain on us financially and we are honestly just hoping for a miracle that we can financially make it through each month and make it to her appointments. She has been suffering from a lot of the symptoms that are associated with hypothyroidism, and anemia including constipation, dry skin, low energy levels, and poor eating. We pray every day that our baby will get the treatment she needs to live a normal life.
Money donated will go to transportation costs to take her back and forth to Doctors appointments, anything left over would go to help maintaining our car to make sure we can get there, and wages lost due to not being available for full time work.
