Please help one of our dedicated volunteers & her dog, Wiley

Meet Wiley! She is a flatcoat Retriever who just turned 4 years of age.

Wiley was adopted at 8 months old and is the happiest, kindest, and loving dog you could meet! Recently, she started to get sick, randomly vomiting only in the mornings. Thinking this was only an upset stomach, a careful eye was kept on her, but her vomiting got worse. It became so bad that she stopped eating, drinking and showed signs of pain. The regular veterinarian’s office was closed, so Wiley was rushed to an emergency veterinarian, where they assessed her, including extensive blood work. The following day, she was brought to her regular veterinarian, given IV fluids, and had x-rays. They believed that something showed up on the x-ray. The following day, Wiley was given a sonogram, where all that was seen was gas bubbles. They felt this might be gastritis.

Wiley was taken home with four different medications and put on a bland diet. By the next day, her condition worsened, and she could not keep down any of her medications. She refused to eat, and any attempt at drinking water caused her to throw up. By now, she was severely dehydrated and losing weight. Nothing seemed to be helping her!

She was rushed back to her regular veterinarian and was kept so they could administer her medications via IV along with necessary fluids. A barium swallow test was done with more x-rays, with the barium contrast not moving through her. The veterinarian was convinced there must be a blockage, and exploratory surgery was needed immediately. After three hours of surgery, a rubber doorstopper no bigger than a 50-cent piece was found in her intestines and removed. Wiley was saved from death, but the financial burden of over $7,000 remains.

This is a volunteer of Long Beach Humane Society who has saved the lives of thousands of kittens, cats, and dogs over decades of volunteer/rescue with us! She prefers to remain anonymous and did not ask to have a GoFundMe created for her. We insisted on doing this for her. We live in uncertain times, and every dollar counts! Whatever amount you can donate will be greatly appreciated!
