*** UPDATE ***
Hi everyone- surgery went well today! Andi was resting comfortably (compliments of a post-surgery nerve block and pain meds) and talking to family afterwards. ♥️ Giant mountain moved. Now: on to the HEALING.
Once again- we thank you for your love and support.
I will periodically give updates for those who want to follow her progress.
Andi is currently at Mayo. After waiting to hear back for the past couple weeks…she received the call this morning that they are able to do the surgery tomorrow!! (Wednesday 8/21)
The surgery being performed tomorrow is an “Allograft-Prosthetic Composite Proximal Humerus Reconstruction in Reverse Shoulder Arthroplasty”
They are removing the bone from the shoulder- down 4+ inches to ensure they get all of the cancer out -before replacing that section of her arm with a lot of hardware. She will have limited mobility going forward- but, praise God- she will be able to keep most of her limb! We are also beyond relieved to find that her lung scan was clear; the cancer has not spread.
This is a very complicated surgery and a very long recovery ahead. We know that she is in the very best hands at Mayo, and we are confident that the procedure will go as planned and be successful.
Please lift up her surgeons and medical team in prayer -as they endure this long and complicated medical feat.
Please continue to pray for Andi ‘s mental health, for peace and comfort, for rest -and thorough healing - and for her (our) family, as we bring her home and do what we can to fill in the gaps of day to day challenges and responsibilities while she heals ….and learns how to adapt to her new normal throughout her recovery process.
Thank all of you -so much- for your continued prayers, messages and support!! Your outpouring of kindness, and generosity has been amazing and appreciated more than you know! Please keep all of the love and encouragement coming in the days and months ahead ♥️
As many of you know- my sister, Andi, was recently diagnosed with a rare bone cancer in her upper right arm. Complicating this, she also has frozen shoulder. She has had a bone biopsy done, and we do know that this kind of cancer does not respond to chemo or radiation.
She has upcoming appointments at Mayo with orthopedic surgeons to determine the best course of action. However- regardless of how and when the surgeries take place, she has been unable to use her right arm since the biopsy. They realized that it would not take much for her bone to snap. Even lifting a gallon of milk is not an option. Everything from showering and dressing - to cooking, and driving has become difficult.
As you can imagine- life has suddenly and unexpectedly become very difficult and stressful… physically, emotionally, and financially. She has been unable to work for over a month now, with no clear indication of if, or when -she can return.
Up until her diagnosis last month, Andi had a thriving business as a stylist, and contributed greatly to their family’s expenses. Now she has been without any income for over a month and already has medical bills starting to roll in. They have insurance through her husband’s employer, but they only cover so much. Her portion of the biopsy alone was $3000. She has major surgery coming up - for which the costs will no doubt be astronomical.
She has tried to apply for Aflac, etc- but that has been proven to be quite the challenge.
We know that everyone has their own bills, and everything is crazy expensive these days. But I am hoping that if a lot of people can give a little bit, we can help make a difference in her daunting situation.
Please consider donating if you feel you can. Thank you -in advance - for your continuing prayers, support, and donations. Every bit helps and we appreciate it all.
