Please help Nikki & Serge

Hi Everyone. I'm raising money for my sister, Nicolette, and my brother-in-law, Serge. The last few months have been a challenge for them, but the last few days have been life-changing.

On March 24th, while waiting for baby Aleksander to come into the world, Nicolette had an aneurysm in the artery that feeds into the spleen. When that artery ruptured, some blood vessels ripped off her stomach, filling it with blood. She lost approximately 4 liters of blood and had damage to some of her organs. After an emergency C section and hours of intensive surgery with a team of 30+ doctors, nurses, and specialists, they were able to save her life and repair the ruptured artery. During the surgery, they wound up removing her spleen and part of her pancreas. It will be on a long road to recovery as well as a significant life change having a compromised immune system.

Baby Alek experienced an extreme amount of trauma being abruptly taken out and is in NICU. He is a fighter, though, and is getting better each day!

In addition to all of the above, this past February, Serge fell and badly hurt his back, resulting spinal fluid leakage. All the medical care required for Serge's back completely drained their health savings account. He had to take a lot of time off from work to recover. Also in February, Nikki and Serge lost the condo they were renting because the landlord needed to sell the unit after his wife became ill. They had to stay in a hotel for weeks (expensive!) until they finally found a place. With baby Alek ready to make his debut, they have not even been able to fully unpack yet.

I'm asking for help for them because Serge does not have enough vacation days left in order to finish unpacking, to get things ready for when Alek and Nikki come home, and to dedicate the time necessary to take care of Nikki, Meena, and their newborn Alek. He will need to take an unpaid leave of absence from work. The money raised will help offset lost income and medical bills so that Serge can take care of my sister, niece, and new nephew without financial stress.
