As many of you may know, Nichole has a rare autoimmune condition called polymyositis, which weakens her muscles. This makes normal, everyday tasks difficult due to chronic, debilitating weakness. Because of this, she takes immunosuppressive agents as treatment to maintain her physical function.

 

Nearly four weeks ago, Nichole contracted COVID-19, for which she did receive monoclonal antibodies shortly thereafter. Unfortunately, the disease process eventually left her with what is referred to as "COVID pneumonia". Normal pneumonia typically affects one area of one lung, whereas COVID pneumonia affects the whole lung of both lungs. This makes the illness very difficult to fight, especially when one is already immunocompromised. Nichole was admitted to Munson Medical Center in Traverse City. Her status continued to decline, and she was transitioned to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), where she still remains. She requires very high oxygen demands and is unable to even reposition in bed without dropping her oxygen saturation down into the 60's (normal is 92-100%). She is expected to be in the hospital for a long time as her status is very fragile.

 

Due to the unforeseen circumstances of this illness, her bills continue to accumulate. Basic month-to-month bills, as well as medical bills, will be a challenge to pay.
