Alleghany Zoo Fire - support Recovery After Tragic Losses

Hello, I am Jessica Russell from West Jefferson, NC. I am a good friend of Neva's. I am creating this fundraiser on behalf of Neva because we are heartbroken to share the devastating news that Neva Starr Walker, a kind-hearted and compassionate woman who dedicated her life to caring for animals, has suffered a series of unimaginable losses.

In the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, Neva’s petting zoo, a safe haven for various animals, was severely damaged. But as if the storm weren’t enough, the destruction continued when an arsonist set fire to what was left standing. Neva lost several of her beloved animals, including one of her silver foxes—whose life was tragically taken in the fire—an emu, and her Coatimundi, who was inhumanely killed by the hands of another human, which is currently under investigation.

This senseless act of cruelty has left Neva devastated, both emotionally and financially. Neva has always been a loving and selfless individual, giving all her energy to nurture and care for her animals. Her petting zoo was not just a place for animals, but a sanctuary for children and families to experience the joy of learning about these incredible creatures.
