On Friday 10th April 2026 at approx 1.45pm my precious little cat Neo got knocked down right outside my house. The person that knocked him down drove on and left him. Luckily a very kind man driving up the road stopped when he seen Neo writhing and squealing in the middle of the road and watched him drag himself to a hedge 2 doors up from me. The man knocked on several doors until he found me and told me what had happened. I scooped Neo up and took him straight to the Animal Hospital in Ballyclare where he currently still is.
It has been a horrendous week of ups and downs. Neo has multiple cracks in his right pelvis and his right leg dosent move, shunting to his left in which he has partial movement, the top part of his tail has no feeling and up until yesterday he wasnt able to pee or poo by himself. On Tuesday i was told that if he didnt pee by himself by Friday that i would have to let him go. To say i have been devestated would be an understatment. I have cried a river of tears this week. BUT today i got good news! I have been up to see Neo every day and he has just lay sleeping in my arms. Today he was purring for the first time, meowing and pulling himself up onto my knee. (I sit on the floor when i visit). He peed yesterday and through the night and again today when i was with him, granted it was all over hiself but the big thing is that he felt he needed and pulled hiself to a corner to go. He has had his pain medication reduced and has started eating well and the the vet is very happy with his progress and is talking next steps which brings me to why i need to raise some money.
I have insurance but it only covers up to £3000 of which i have to pay £100 excess and the first 10%. His bill is currently just short of £2000. He will need to stay in hospital for another while then he will need to have his right leg amputated and possibly his tail. I wont have enough left on my insurance to cover that. Hes only 4 years old and has the prospect of returning to a very healthy and happy wee cat all be it a 3 legged one so it is more than worth doing. I wouldnt put him through this if i didnt have his best interests at heart and neither would the vet.
Neo is a very special wee cat to me. We have such a special bond. I have 3 cats but I am HIS person. I rescued him at 5mths old 4 yrs ago. He was a ferral farm cat and had already been neutered and had the top of his wee ear clipped of by the farmer. He was my first cat. I used to be rediculously allergic to cats when i was younger and was ready to take antihistamines for the rest of my life but miraculously my allergy had completley vanished when i got him. I took him to the vet for a check up because he didnt act how i thought a wee cat of his age should and it turned out he had the most horrendous resp infection and was on the cusp of pneumonia. He was on antibiotics for 18 days to clear it! If i hadnt got him when i did he would have died in the shelter. I believe to this day that he knows i saved his wee life and that is why our bond is so strong. He was a ferral farm cat and honestly he is and always has been the most gentle, sweet and loving cat. He is also tiny from being nuetered so young and has a tiny wee kitten face. He sleeps on top of me every night and gives me kisses on the lips every morning. I feel like part of me is missing not having him in the house.
Please if you can help me in any way i would be so so appreciative. Any money raised will go directly to pay for Neo's bill and operation.
If you made it to the end of my VERY long story, thankyou and if you are unable to help financially then please please keep Neo in your thoughts.
