Please Donate: Nayma’s family needs your help

We are three sisters from Dhaka, Bangladesh and have created this go-fund-me page for a situation we couldn’t have even imagined three months ago. On March 31, our mother, Nayma Meherin, succumbed to post-covid complications. She was 46 years old. We haven’t had a chance to fully come to terms with her death, but are already suffocating under the weight of $300,000 in medical bills (air ambulance fee, hospital bills, etc.). Before explaining the details of our current reality, we want to take a moment to tell you about our mother.

She was incredibly kind, caring, and eager to help. Her motherly love and sympathy for others extended beyond her children and immediate family. She never hesitated to help others in any way she could, even if it were a stranger. Since her passing, countless people outside of our family shared how she filled the role of a mother, an elder sister, and a mentor. The ability to care so selflessly also came with incredibly strength and determination. She was the rock bringing stability to everyone’s lives during times of chaos.

Two months ago, our mother and grandmother contracted COVID-19. Our mother’s concern was not herself, but for our grandmother. She immediately dedicated herself to her mother’s care. Despite the stress and fear she felt, she was determined to stay strong and save her mother.  She went above and beyond and by Allah’s grace and our mother’s efforts, my grandmother had recovered. But soon after the impact of neglecting her own COVID diagnosis resulted in the quick deterioration of our mother’s health. The last month of her life was an excruciatingly painful medical journey, spent largely isolated in an ICU ward. Her persistence and will to live showed through in the way she continued to fight against the virus. We cannot imagine the amount of strength it takes to sign your own papers to go on life support to give your body a fighting chance. Even as her health worsened, she remained grateful to be receiving medical care.

Our family was determined to fight for her life like she would for any of ours and we transferred her from her hospital in Bangladesh to one in the United States in hopes that she would receive better treatment. In her last moments of consciousness aboard the air ambulance, she thanked God for this chance and closed her eyes with the hopes of finally being reunited with her children. Unfortunately, she passed away after a week of continued fighting. There are so many things we lost that day – so many experiences in life that we thought we would be able to share with our mother. To put this in context, we are 21, 19, and 13 years old. Our mom didn’t even get a chance to see two of us go to college.

As we all know, medical care comes at a cost regardless of the patient’s outcome. Our family pooled together our savings and paid off $150,000 of the approximately $450,000 due. We never hoped to be in this position but are asking for some kindness to help us pay off the remaining $300,000. We are grateful for any help we receive.

The beneficiary of this donation is AMI Expeditionary Healthcare, LLC. AMI has rendered the emergency  air ambulance service to our family in the time of our dire need.
