Sherri vs Glioblastoma (Brain cancer) HELP PLEASE

Updated with some more or corrections and additions. 7/12/2023.

Hi my name is Janet and I’m desperately trying to raise money for one of my dearest and closest friends that I’ve ever had!

She is a loving, caring, compassionate person who would give someone the last piece of bread if they were hungry or a warm blanket if someone needed it. I have witnessed many selfless acts of love & kindness from her over the years!

This is Sherri’s story that I so wish I didn’t have to tell. My heart literally feels as if it breaks into each time I talk about this and in knowing what she’s facing.

Sherri has been diagnosed with something called glioblastoma. Which is a terminal form of cancer that literally covers her brain. On February 8, 2023, She was given days, and possibly up to 3 weeks to live without brain surgery. The other option was to have the brain surgery (craniotomy) , to be followed with radiation & chemotherapy. Doing the surgery, she was told she could possibly get to live up to 18 month's, if she followed through (and survived) the surgery. She was well aware that if she did the surgery, this was not doing anything other than simply giving her a little more time. She decided she was going to fight and do everything possible just to get that extra time she desperately needed as did her family.

Her life is being cut short as she has been diagnosed by multiple Drs as being terminal. A cruel fact about glioblastoma is that it is a merciless monster and unfortunately the tumor will always grow back, some that will return will just have more time in between the growth timing than others. It’s been said that due to an initial misdiagnosis of this, and had it been caught originally, she may not be living through the hell she’s going through trying to survive a few more months with her family.

Sherris cancer is terminal. It doesn't go away. There is no cure! She can't finish medication & get better.

She is diagnosed with a brain cancer (massive tumor). Her diagnosis is a grade 4 Glioblastoma. An unmethylated wild type tumor. This is a very aggressive, fierce,  unforgiving and sadly terminal at this point.

But 1st a little background. Sherri turned 45 this past December. Sherri has been married for 27 years, has 4 children (26) (23) (22,) (14) and 6 grandchildren (all under the age of 4!) & there’s another one on the way! Her family is her life and she prides herself on being an amazing wife, mother, and now a grandmother to these beautiful babies!

Her husband, Ron, has taken off work, time and time again to bring her to appointments, and be there for her if she wanted or needed him. He has not left her side. Ron is a man who carries himself with pride, and that clearly shows daily! Ron is an employee of Denso Manufacturing in Maryville, TN.

This man,  as well as Sherri were very reluctant and have had to swallow their pride when I asked about me starting this fundraiser to try and help with the heavy burden he is handling financially, in addition, to realizing every day may be his last with his beautiful wife.

Sadly no matter what people are going through in life, it does not stop the bills from coming. And if you continue to read this (I pray that you do), it’s clear that the bills are unbelievable and one man simply can not handle this alone! He is handling a lot as it is, the bills need to be paid and he wants to be able to pay them, but Sherri is his #1 priority for now.  The bills are piling up daily!

He does have a monthly payment plan set up at one of the hospitals, but there are just too many coming in, and so much more to come! He’s simply trying to keep a roof over their heads and food in the home!

Thankfully he does have medical insurance, but there is so much that isn’t covered and /or to pay out of pocket!

Sherri has mainly been healthy all of her life except for high blood pressure.

Sherri & her husband went to a local hospital in Blount County on October 9th 2022 with symptoms of migraines, disorientation, nausea, high blood pressure, and fatigue. There, she was diagnosed with having a stroke. That hospital only kept her as a patient for 1 day!

On February 8th, 2023, she went back to the same hospital in fear that she was having another stroke. The Drs said she did not have a stroke. She wasn’t given much information about what was found, other than “it” was too complex for them, and she was being transported immediately by ambulance to a neighboring hospital.

Once she was there, the testing, bloodwork, scans, etc began. They still were unaware of anything as far as what had been found.

On February 9th, 2023, Sherri and her families lives were changed forever. They were told her her diagnosis and the survival rates being so very low and minimal time was left for her. She had to literally make a life or death decision with not much time to think or process what they were told. Her choices were to leave it alone and possibly survive a few weeks OR fight and gain all the time she could. Neither decision was easy and even with a fight from her, her future is grim based on this type of cancer. To fight would require an extremely difficult surgery , followed by Chemotherapy and Radiation.

She called all of her children to the hospital to tell them about what was happening and about her diagnosis. Needless to say, they were devastated.

She decided to go forward and have the surgery, so the hospital put a team together as soon as they could. She had the 1st surgery, and everyone thought things were good.

Her life was changed forever a second time when she woke up from her surgery to realize that she had lost 90% of her vision in her right eye, and all but 10% in her left eye. This made her legally blind causing her to lose her driver's license, and to be forced to learn to see the world a whole new way.

Throughout her healing process her incision sight got infected due to her body rejecting the new, protective plate that was placed in her skull.

This called for an immediate second surgery on March 30th, 2023 , which unfortunately pushed away the start date for her chemo and radiation treatments for a while to allow for some healing. Because of her chemo and radiation being postponed there was more devastating news on its way.

On May 11th, 2023 Sherri was informed that she had new tumor growth, and that it was growing at a very fast rate.

With the news of new tumor growth her doctors decided it was time to start chemo and radiation.

Even though she and her body were not ready. Sherri and her Drs are at the mercy of the cancer, they basically can not make timing decisions while moving forward. Obviously, the cancer does.

Chemotherapy and radiation began for her on May 17, 2023. She goes 5 days a week, every week , for a total of 42 days to try and slow this new tumor down and also to eliminate the areas they were unable to remove during the 1st surgery, because many parts of it, were embedded in her brain. The additional risk, as well as potential for risking severe damage, only allowed for them to safely remove only so much of it.

She is taking her chemo meds 7 days a week. She gets a one month break, and during that time, they will do another scan, and then that determines the next course of action. She always has to do a "maintenance dose" though, which is chemo and radiation once a week, every month.

None of her vision has really returned, because they took out the part of the brain that would allow that, but it's gotten better for her some because she's learned to work with what she has.

She’s a fighter without any doubt! She has been so thankful for every day God has given her, but just like it does everyone who goes through chemo and radiation, it definitely has taken its toll on her. With hair loss, nausea, fatigue, skin changes, depression and overall pain. She is still going and pushing through everything imaginable just to survive!

To even survive (2) craniotomy’s within a short period of time in itself is remarkable!

So I humbly ask that you say prayers for my sweet friend who is like a sister to me and also pray for her family! If you can possibly help financially, even a small amount, ($1, $2, $5), that may allow her to not spend her last days (months) worrying herself (not to mention more stress for her) and her having watching her husband struggle.

She also travels to Duke in North Carolina to see surgeons there. That’s almost a 6hr trip , one way! The expense  of that is also adding up quickly.

Her family needs every single minute they can get with her. Just as she needs them!

So please find it in your hearts to help my friend, the world is so cruel as it is, but you could help her, that blessing will let her know that good people do still exist!

I hope you read this and I apologize for the length of it all. There is simply no way to condense this nightmare she’s going through!

She’s made a tough decision, on a moments notice, but she chose that out of love. i will update as this progresses. Sherri is going to battle this! Miracles happen every single day! I believe she may show one to all of us!

Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers. This is a great example of how we never know if we have much time left or not.

She is now to the stage where she has major hair loss and of course there are additional changes with her skin, body, extreme nausea, fatigue, depression etc. So she has additional needs that they simply don’t have additional money to cover. However, even with all of this happening to her, she is still finding a way to smile most of the time!
