❤️ Help Jesús and Yamara Rebuild After
Surviving a Devastating Fire

On Wednesday night, June 18th, around 11:50 PM, tragedy struck in South Tucson, near Bilby and Park.
Jesús and Yamara were in their workshop beside the mobile home, going over their weekly budget. Jesús, a
hardworking locksmith and small business owner, had just been paid in cash for several recent jobs. They
were talking, planning, trying to stay ahead - like they always did.
Inside the house were their 16-year-old son Andier, his friend, and Yamara’s mother.
Then - a loud pop shattered the night.
When they opened the door, they were met with horror: their Can-Am was engulfed in flames. The fire was
already spreading to another vehicle and the house itself. The hose was unreachable. Smoke was closing in.
Alarms were blaring.
They had just 2 to 3 minutes to make an unthinkable decision: run through the fire... or be consumed by it.
They ran.
With bare hands, they pushed against melting metal, their skin blistering and peeling as they forced their way
to safety. But Yamara suddenly cried out - her mother was still inside the house.
Without hesitation, Jesús turned left. He walked through the heart of the fire, unsure if anyone was alive. He
found out they had escaped through the back door, and followed them out, only to see the fire intensify. Once
outside, Jesús was worried about Yamara, who had been left behind inside the car shed. Thankfully, she
escaped through the other side and reunited with her family.
Despite his worsening injuries, Jesús realized the fire could spread to neighboring homes - the car keys were
lost inside, so he reprogrammed one vehicle’s key during the fire and successfully moved it. He hotwired
another to try to prevent an explosion. But it was too late - the flames had already spread.
Everything was lost: the house, tools, documents, their cash, belongings - and most of their beloved cats.
Out of 8, only 3 have been found. Two of them remain too traumatized to let anyone near and now return to the
ruins, waiting for their people to come home. We do not know if the others survived.
Their Injuries and Recovery
Both Jesús and Yamara are now in the Burn Unit at Banner University Medical Center in Tucson.
● Yamara suffered second-degree burns on her arms, hands, legs, and feet, and third-degree burns
that require surgery on her leg and foot.
● Jesús suffered second-degree burns on his face, arms, hands, legs, and feet. His entire back is
covered in third-degree burns - his shirt had to be ripped off by medics after it fused to his skin.
They cannot walk, eat, or move properly. They must sleep fully stretched to avoid permanent loss of
movement.
Jesús has already had one surgery, after which he was rushed to the ICU due to intense bleeding. More
surgeries are ahead - including skin grafts, long-term rehab, and physical therapy.
Emotionally, they are still trying to process what happened. Their strength comes from their faith in God and
the love of those around them. But the pain is heavy - not just of injury, but of losing the home and memories
they built together.
They are currently in separate rooms at the hospital but still manage to visit each other across the hallway,
little by little, every day.
What They Lost - and Why They Need Help
This fire didn’t just take a home - it destroyed their entire livelihood.
Jesús lost:
● Thousands of dollars in locksmith and programming equipment
● Key cutters, auto reprogrammers, BMW/Audi modules, and specialty tools
● Equipment for their second business (mini-split installations)
● All the tools needed to earn a living
They lost:
● Their only home (paid off and lived in for nearly 9 years)
● Birth certificates, IDs, naturalization documents
● Yamara’s phone, their furniture, their food, their pets - everything
They are currently in the hospital, and once discharged, they’ll stay temporarily with Yamara’s sister until they
can begin again.
They urgently need:
● Cash donations to cover medical recovery, daily needs, and eventual home replacement
● Meals or supplies for their support team at the hospital
● Furniture, clothing, and essentials once they are able to relocate
● Help finding their cats, who remain in the area but won’t come near anyone except Jesús or Yamara
Jesús and Yamara have promised that any extra funds will go to the other two families affected by the fire or
to other fire victims in need. This is not for profit - it’s for survival and service.
Who They Are - and the Legacy They’ve Built
Jesús and Yamara are known in Tucson not just for their work - but for their heart.
Jesús founded Locksmith Medina and Airco Medina over 7 years ago. He’s known for showing up with a
smile and never turning his back on someone in need.
He once fixed a cousin’s old BMW - not for money, but because it was their only car and he didn’t want them to
lose work. He replaced the entire steering column and reprogrammed the car by hand - saving them
thousands without asking for a dime.
Yamara is a professional caregiver, pouring love into every person she serves. She’s known for her gentle
strength and kind spirit. Together, they opened their home to everyone - when family visited, they stayed there.
When friends needed support, they were there.
They are also active volunteers at Luz y Vida Church, where Jesús runs the sound system and both help
during events. They’ve spent years serving their community.
Now, they need their community to stand with them.

vidas tras sobrevivir a un incendio devastador
El miércoles por la noche, 18 de junio, alrededor de las 11:50 PM, ocurrió una tragedia en el sur de Tucson,
cerca de Bilby y Park.
Jesús y Yamara estaban en su taller junto a la casa móvil, revisando el presupuesto familiar de la semana.
Jesús, un cerrajero trabajador y dueño de dos pequeños negocios, acababa de recibir el pago en efectivo por
varios trabajos recientes. Estaban conversando, planeando, tratando de salir adelante - como siempre lo
hacían.
Dentro de la casa estaban su hijo Andier de 16 años, el amigo de Andier y la mamá de Yamara.
Entonces - se escuchó un estallido fuerte.
Al abrir la puerta, vieron una escena aterradora: su vehículo Can-Am estaba envuelto en llamas. El fuego
ya se estaba extendiendo a otro carro y a la casa. La manguera era inaccesible. El humo rodeaba todo. Las
alarmas estaban sonando.
Tuvieron apenas 2 o 3 minutos para tomar una decisión impensable: ¿quedarse y morir... o correr entre el
fuego para sobrevivir?
Corrieron.
Con las manos desnudas, empujaron metal derretido mientras su piel se ampollaba y se les desprendía.
Pero Yamara recordó - su madre seguía adentro.
Sin pensarlo, Jesús giró a la izquierda. Caminó a través del fuego hacia la casa, sin saber si su familia
estaba viva. Por suerte, todos habían escapado por la puerta trasera. Jesús también salió por ahí, solo para
ver cómo el fuego se intensificaba. Ya afuera, se preocupó por Yamara, quien se había quedado entre las
llamas. Gracias a Dios, Yamara había escapado por otro lado y se reunió con su familia.
A pesar del dolor, Jesús notó que el fuego se extendía. Las llaves de los carros estaban dentro de la casa.
Entonces, reprogramó una llave en medio del incendio para mover un vehículo y evitar una explosión.
Puenteó otro carro, pero ya era demasiado tarde - las llamas ya habían alcanzado la casa de un vecino.
Perdieron todo: la casa, herramientas, documentos, efectivo, pertenencias - y la mayoría de sus gatos
queridos. Tenían 8. Hasta ahora, solo se han encontrado 3. Dos de ellos siguen demasiado asustados para
dejarse agarrar, y regresan a las ruinas, esperando a sus dueños. No sabemos si los otros gatitos
sobrevivieron.
Sus Heridas y Camino de Recuperación
Ambos están ahora en la Unidad de Quemados del hospital Banner en Tucson.
● Yamara tiene quemaduras de segundo grado en brazos, manos, piernas y pies, y de tercer grado en
una pierna y un pie que requieren cirugía.
● Jesús tiene quemaduras de segundo grado en cara, brazos, piernas y pies, y de tercer grado en
toda la espalda. Su camiseta se le coció a la piel y tuvo que ser arrancada por los paramédicos.
No pueden caminar ni moverse correctamente. No pueden sostener cubiertos, ni alimentarse solos.
Jesús ya tuvo una cirugía y tuvo que ser movido a cuidados intensivos por hemorragia. Todavía le faltan
varios injertos de piel y una larga rehabilitación física.
Emocionalmente, están intentando procesar el trauma. Su fe en Dios les da fuerza, pero el dolor y la tristeza
son enormes.
Actualmente están en cuartos separados, pero aun así hacen el esfuerzo de cruzar el pasillo para visitarse,
poco a poco, cada día.
Lo Que Perdieron - y Por Qué Necesitan Ayuda
Este incendio no solo les quitó una casa. Les quitó todo su modo de vida.
Jesús perdió:
● Herramientas valoradas en miles de dólares para su negocio de cerrajería y programación automotriz
● Cortadoras de llaves, computadoras para autos BMW/Audi, módulos, herramientas especializadas
● Todo el equipo para su segundo negocio de instalación de mini-splits
También perdieron:
● Su único hogar (pagado, vivieron ahí por casi 9 años)
● Actas de nacimiento, documentos migratorios, identificaciones
● Teléfono de Yamara, ropa, muebles, alimentos, recuerdos, mascotas...
Hoy están en el hospital. Y cuando sean dados de alta, se quedarán temporalmente con la hermana de
Yamara, mientras buscan un lugar donde empezar de nuevo.
Necesitan:
● Donaciones en efectivo para cubrir necesidades médicas, alimentos, transporte y la reconstrucción
de su hogar
● Alimentos y suministros para sus familiares que están con ellos en el hospital
● Ropa, muebles y artículos básicos cuando puedan mudarse nuevamente
● Ayuda para encontrar a sus gatos, que aún están cerca pero no se dejan agarrar
Jesús y Yamara han prometido que todo lo que sobre será destinado a las otras dos familias afectadas por
el incendio o a otras víctimas de quemaduras. Esto no es para lucro, es para sobrevivir con dignidad y
ayudar a otros.
Quiénes Son - y El Legado Que Han Construido
Jesús y Yamara no son solo sobrevivientes. Son personas que siempre han dado sin pedir nada a cambio.
Jesús fundó Locksmith Medina y Airco Medina hace más de 7 años. Es conocido por ayudar sin
condiciones, por sonreír aunque esté cansado, y por hacer lo imposible por otros.
Una vez, un primo con un BMW viejo se le rompió la llave. Jesús le arregló el carro entero, sin cobrarle, para
que pudiera seguir trabajando. Ese tipo de persona es Jesús.
Yamara Arenas, cuidadora profesional, da amor y paciencia a cada cliente que atiende. Con voz suave y
corazón firme, cuida de todos los que la rodean.
También son miembros activos de la iglesia Luz y Vida, donde Jesús opera el sonido y ambos ayudan en
cada evento que pueden.
Su hogar era un punto de reunión familiar - cuando alguien venía de visita, sabían que podían quedarse
ahí.
Hoy, ellos necesitan el mismo amor que siempre han dado.
