Please help Becky continue fighting her surgeries
Thank you for taking the time to read this, this is for my sister-in-law Rebecca Moran.
*UPDATE 10*
Unfortunately Rebecca didn’t get the best news at the surgeon. The road to recovery is far from over. She will need 1 to 2 more surgeries and the doctor explained how extremely painful and invasive the process will be.
We are all here for you Rebecca!!
*UPDATE 9*
Hi everyone!
Rebecca is finally home.
Unfortunately; her road to recovery is far from over. She’s on super strong antibiotics that take her out much of the day. She has one more surgery left (we hope). And then more recovery time.
She has about 6-8 doctor appointments in the month to finalize her consult and hopefully get all the answers we need. Between her surgeries and lupus and other ailments, my sister is truly a fighter. We couldn’t be more proud of her.
Thank you all for the continued support. Please continue to share and donate if possible as Rebecca and Jesse still need all the help they can get. We love you all. The support and love has kept her entire family strong.
*UPDATE 8*
Hey everyone this is Rebeccas Sister in law writing this new update. She is unfortunately back in the hospital and is admitted. She has become septic again, has an infection in her kidneys and an inflamed kidney. She has to get a second surgery done to clean up the first surgery and possibly another one after that. We are preying she gets answers and gets better. Please share this as many times as you can. Rebecca really needs all the support she can get right now. Thank you!❤️
*UPDATE 7*
I am unfortunately back in the hospital. It looks like I am going to need another surgery. My kidneys are inflamed and I have signs of infection.
Infectious disease; Gastro, internal medicine - many teams are on board as I am a “complex case”
I am being admitted into a hospital near me. Unfortunately we thought the worst was over. We will keep fighting. Please pray and thank you for the unconditional love and support.
*UPDATE 6*
Imagine having to text your mom your funeral arrangements. A big party to celebrate my life where everyone shares a story. I’d like to be cremated and spread into the ocean at night because that always calms me.
Imagine the trauma that would cause not only you, but your mom too. That’s what I had to do. When I say I almost died, my surgery was life threatening. I had hours left to live had I not made it to the ER. They told my husband it could go one of two ways, for 3 hours he sat there wondering if he would go back to New York alone, as a widow.
The last two weeks have been so life altering for my family and me. But I am here. God, whichever God you may believe in had a bigger plan for me, and I intend to find out what it is.
The support, love and texts have been overwhelming. Family, friends, complete strangers have shown us kindness we couldn’t imagine.
Jesse and I are back home (we missed our doggos and family/friends so much) and I have a long road of recovery ahead of me. The surgery was invasive but I am alive and okay. I’ll sleep and recover for the next few weeks so if i am delayed in answering you, I apologize.
The Mayo Clinic diagnose may take some time as I need to have a few more “virtual appointments” until we finalize the diagnoses. But they were fantastic and thorough and I will update everyone as soon as I can.
We could not have made this trip, that was suppose to be 1 week and turned into 3 without everyone’s help. The gofundme truly saved my life. We couldn’t have been able to book hotels and pay for everything (all the recovery necessities) with peace of mind. Thank you so much for your generous donations. It truly makes my heart melt when I think of people near and far who donated.
I am leaving the link open because we have so much more to do. Please donate or share if you can. My story is real and it is scary but I want others to be strong. We can get through anything with the love and support of all.
*UPDATE 5*
8 days in the hospital (and counting)
Mrsa cleaning for my apartment back at home (because Mrsa in in my bloodstream)
IV pick and home Heath aid sent to my hotel upon discharge
Open ended time frame for hotels (pending recovery)
Mayo consult still needed
Please consider donating. The above items are very costly and overwhelming and all donations will go to the above. Thank you so much
*UPDATE #4*
Hi everyone, Rebecca here. Thank you for the calls and texts. If I haven’t gotten back to you, I’m just recovering.
I had emergency surgery at Mayo Clinic. We came to the ER due to fever and nonstop vomiting, they ended up admitting me and finding the source of infection. The doctors needed to act quick before my body became septic. It was a pretty big and painful surgery.
After the surgery the doctor told me if I didn’t come in at the time I did I could have died. I’m am grateful to be alive and that they got the infection when they did. Recovery is gonna be a lot but I’m staying positive and hoping for a great recovery
I’ll be recovering in the hospital the next few days and then we resume our initial consult part of the medical journey next week.
What started as a 1 week trip has now stretched to 3! I'm blessed to have been here when the infection turned for the worse and am happy I have such a supportive army behind me getting me through this.
It’s been a crazy ride, but we will get there. It’s so important to get me healthy again! Please pray as the recovery is quite painful and I am eager to find out the next steps of treatment as well.
*UPDATE #3*
Rebecca had her first consult today with the Rheumatologist at Mayo Clinic. He would like to do a massive overview in 3 areas:
- Autoimmune/Inflammatory (muscle inflammation, myositis, essential thrombocytosis)
- Neurological - nerve electrical studies and MS, small fiber nerve damage
- Hematology - blood disorders, bone marrow diseases and to rule out cancer
So far Rebecca has done a full blood panel and part 1 of catscan. Tomorrow she does part 2, and they are scheduling Electromygraphy next week, as well as meetings with Neurology and Hematology consult. We don’t know what testing they will order yet.
Rebecca was supposed to leave Mayo Clinic Friday, and now her stay is extended until Wednesday (and could be longer!) With seeing all these doctors and testing and hotel costs, it’s a lot on Rebecca. We decided to make this GoFundMe to help Rebecca as much as possible in any direction we can and we appreciate everyone who have donated and contributed to helping Rebecca
Please continue to share her page, contribute in any way you can, and help Rebecca in this very stressful time. We love her and we want her life to be normal again. Please help us support Rebecca and pray for her and her family. We love you all and thank you!
*UPDATE #2* Hi everyone, we increased the go fund me goal because as closer as we get to going to the Mayo Clinic we are seeing the clinic visit can be anywhere from 5,000-15,000. We’re not sure what Rebecca’s insurance will cover.
So far the only answers we have are that Rebecca’s white blood cells are still elevated, her liver is showing inflammation, and her inflammation markers are through the roof. Rebecca has had a very tough week. She’s been in extreme pain and fatigue. Her mom said this is the worst she’s ever seen her. The depression is getting to her too but she has been remaining positive. We will find answers soon. Thank you for the love and support and please keep sharing for awareness.
*UPDATE #1* Thank you everyone who has been supporting, sharing and following along through my medical journey.
I saw another rheumatologist for a second opinion, particularly for why my hands are swollen and riddled with joint pain. Still no answers. I was able to snag another appointment with a third doctor tomorrow but it seems the Mayo Clinic will still be my best option.
I have an upcoming cat scan to rule out serious findings. Both my white blood cells are liver enzymes are elevated, this together with my ongoing fevers, my doctors have to rule out various cancers.
September 15 is my appointment at the Mayo Clinic and probably my only hope at finding answers to what is going on with all my health issues. We spoke to the Mayo Clinic and it is $850 to walk in the doors, and to see doctors and whatever testing they may need are unsure and can cost a lot. They were able to say that research shows that a consult is usually $5000
A lot to do! But we’ll get there. Thank you for the love and support.*END OF UPDATE*
She is 30 years old and has Lupus and Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA). Rebecca was once a fun, loving and active girl and unfortunately I’ve watched her slowly become sicker and sicker. Her life has completely changed and it is hard to watch her suffer like this.
Rebecca is one of the most dedicated people I’ve ever met. When she sets her mind to something, she gets it done. She has a huge heart. She loves her family, friends and dogs! Rebecca has 3 dogs of her own and one of them is handicapped. She felt a true soft spot for Flash and saved him. Flash lives his life in wheels and Rebecca knows how it feels to be disabled and not be able to walk. Rebecca and her husband Jesse have to express Flash; help him into his diapers and his wheelchair everyday. When Flash arrived to them he was covered in urine and feces burns. This just shows you the type of person she is. She takes on more than she can because she wants to help others despite her own pain. On top of that, she fosters and helps rescues. She has a true soft spot for animals and those in need.
Rebecca is extremely hardworking. She had Covid and worked through it day and night. She’s the strongest person I know. Slowing down isn’t an option for her!
She recently hasn’t been feeling too great, She’s been in debilitating pain, having fevers that flush her entire body, hot and cold chills and extreme fatigue. Her fingers swell so bad by 6pm she's in bed for the rest of the night. Her hips hurt her so bad her husband, Jesse, has to help her to the bathroom. I’ve watched her suffer with extreme depression, struggling day in and day out. I go over there almost everyday to help her out to get her through this.
In the beginning of the summer Rebecca fell and hurt both of her ankles. She has had to be in fracture boots the whole entire summer. She’s been paying out of pocket covering the cost of her ankles and physical therapy.
With her Lupus and RA, it's been hard for her body to get back to normal. Her Lupus and RA attacks her organs and her RA doesn’t let her body heal like a normal person can. Rebecca’s body hadn’t been responding to any of the countless medicines she is on.
When she went to the doctor most recently, test results showed that her liver is damaged and inflamed. Rebecca's rheumatologist is unsure what he can do except send her to the next level of specialists.
Her doctor wants her to go to Mayo Clinic in Florida for her treatment to give her the best possible outcome. She’s been paying out of pocket for all of her doctor's appointments for her ankles and now, with this trip to the Mayo Clinic, it’s a lot on her. Her travel costs, hotel stays, medications, and treatments are all too much for one person to handle.
Please consider helping me sister as she has helped others, especially countless dogs. She is not one to ask for her help but she is in time of need. If you know Rebecca, you’d love her and we all need to support her through this.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and I hope you will consider making a donation.
