Latoya lives in South Carolina with her three beautiful children, and I’m in Connecticut. For this life-saving transplant to happen, she’ll need to travel here, undergo extensive medical testing, surgery, and then stay for recovery — all while being away from her family. She’ll have to take time off work, which will create a serious financial strain on her and her household. As much as she wants to be here for me, the cost of travel, lodging, child care, and lost income makes this sacrifice even more overwhelming.
