Please help recover from march 27 flood in Pharr
Donation protected
Hello, my name is Alexia, I’m asking for help to collect funds or donations for my grandparents that live in South Pharr Texas, on Thursday March 27, around 2:45 pm, my parents picked me up early from school with intentions on heading to my baby brothers doctor appointment which we did not make it to. Around 5 minutes after she picked me up, we got a call from emergency service communications alerting the rio grande valley community about a tornado warning around the area. Fortunately this was still a couple of miles away from where we were at that moment. Nevertheless a non ending heaving thunderstorm starting passing through our sky’s, for hours. In matter of minutes our streets started to flood rapidly without stop. My grandfather who also works at the same school where I attend. Headed his way home a couple of minutes later. My school wasn’t able to release other students because of how bad the weather was now.
my grandfather made it home but my grandma wasn’t out of work until 6, and my grandpa was no longer able to evacuate the neighborhood because water level was already surpassing his vehicle’s capability. That evening after hours of non stopping thunderstorms, my grandmother did not make it home. She had to stay over at someone else’s home in McAllen, as streets were too flooded, many students made it home until 11pm that night because buses where stranded on the streets and cars where floating everywhere. But the worst started later early morning. As rain wasn’t stopping at all, the level was already starting to compromise homes. Everyone was in shock, no one could believe water will eventually start coming inside homes destroying everything on the way. Around 2am of march 28th, water was already around 12 inches high inside, my father woke up to here bubbling from underneath his floor. Kitchen, living room, bedrooms, backyard, clothes, shoes, everything was already packed with water and personal items were already floating inside. And outside. Some of the neighbors didn’t run the same luck he did but many of them are today under the same situation. My parents made it in the neighborhood the next late morning, to help evacuate my grandfather, my aunt and my great grandmother too. Fortunately their truck was high enough to handle the waters and their vehicle had minimal damage. The water level nearly came down, until the 29 on its own because city officials were only concerned about taking a video for Facebook. Until the water was no longer flowing through the streets at waist level like the last two days. Kayaks have been bringing families out and helping recover people personal possessions. Today, with my hand on my heart I ask forward for help as minimal as it can be. So we can buy my parents new appliances and replace the Sheetrock that has been damaged by water. My grandparents work at the maintenance department for a local school district since over 12 years. And they have worked so hard to make the schools look beautiful! 4 staff members from school volunteered yesterday to help my parents and my grandparents clean out the aftermath of this terrible storm that has caused so much damage to our community and our neighbors in Reynosa Mexico, this week.
we truly appreciate all the help you can provide to them, and we thank everyone in advance for keeping everyone in your prayers. As I had to see so many people break into tears and despair once they got back home!
thank you all and God Bless everyone.
