Hurricane Idalia relief for my parents

Donation protected

**UPDATE FROM KERRY ON 9/3**
We met with the claims adjuster yesterday and they have to replace all the drywall, all the flooring, lower kitchen cabinets, bathroom vanities, the outside AC condenser, all interior and exterior doors, baseboards, trim...pretty much anything the floodwater touched. I'm not sure how long it will be before the house is liveable again.
The water restoration company will be out on Wednesday for their assessment. Hopefully the two estimates match.
We are overwhelmed by the generosity we've received over the past few days...from the GoFundMe and other cash donations, offers of furniture, and just the overall thoughtfulness we've been shown. You all really have made this a little easier to handle and we can't begin to thank you enough.
The money raised will go toward the deposit the water restoration company charges, which is usually the amount of the deductible. In our case, it's 5,000. Anything above the 5k will be used to help replace the things the insurance company won't replace, such as personal property/contents of the house, and make up any gaps between what the insurance pays out and what the contractors charge.
Pete and I are so grateful for everyone who has helped. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

**ORIGINAL POST**
My name is Terri and I am setting up this GoFundMe for my parents. They just moved into their home in 2021, they moved to Port Richey, FL to be close to my husband and I.

Their home is directly on a canal and when Hurricane Idalia was on her way, we really thought they wouldn’t be so heavily affected. 1. Because the hurricane did not make direct landfall anywhere near us, and 2. Tampa Bay has always gotten lucky.

The surge ended up being much worse than expected. The entire house was flooded on the exterior a foot, and a couple of inches on the entire inside of their home. Their vinyl flooring is all ruined and warping, the smell is terrible, they’ve lost quite a bit of furniture.

The problem they are running into now is that their flood insurance does not cover contents. In addition, the mitigation/remediation companies are all requiring the deductible as the down payment which is $5,000.00. FEMA has not declared Pasco county as an affected county, and therefore will not provide any assistance.

Their home is not livable until they can get remediation in there to take care of all the damages. Any little bit helps. They have done SO much for us (including childcare for my son while my husband and I work) and they have been so generous with others as well. I would love to be able to give back to them and help them get their life back. These funds would help to cover their down payment/flood insurance deductible for remediation.

They have been sleeping on our couches and futon and it is definitely not the most comfortable for them. I would love to help them get their home back. Any contributions would be so so greatly appreciated. They truly deserve it.
