My sweet 3 year old niece was recently diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. We are so luckily she was blessed into the right family who knew what to look for and caught things before they got too bad. But things haven’t been easy these last couple weeks. It’s quite hard to figure out what her little body needs. Mom and Dad are exhausted. Physically & Mentally.
- To give you a little history, my sister Jessica, who just turned 40 last month, was diagnosed with T1D 33 years ago, when she was 7 and I was 5. She’s battled this her whole life. We’ve had some scares where we almost lost her. But she’s a fighter. Fast forward till she gets married to her loving husband, Drew. Shortly after, he was diagnosed with type 1, at the age of 26. These newlyweds knew life would be hard, but they had each other & were supposed to be in each others lives. Drew (now having T1D for 20 years) is self-employed and has always worked very hard to take care of his family no matter what. Jessica also worked for many many years. She’s had 3 beautiful sons who all had to come early because of her diabetes. Her pregnancies were high risk but that didn’t stop her, she always wanted a family. When her youngest was 10 she was surprised with what I call a Miracle Baby. This angel came down to bless this family with her curly dark hair and long eyelashes. She came just before the Covid pandemic and was high risk like her brothers. She had some GI troubles but finally at about 1 years old she was feeling better. She has the best personality and is as smart as a whip! She has everyone wrapped around her little finger. Drew & Jessica know what lies ahead. A very steep and scary mountain they will climb together. But knowing what they know almost makes it harder. (In my opinion) All of scary things that could happen. Her little body is not the same as theirs, insulin works differently. There is still a lot to learn. They came home from the hospital with 11 prescriptions, and are now at 14. What I am asking for from all of my friends and family is just a small donation, anything. Added up, this will help them tremendously. This disease is expensive, imagine it times THREE. I would be so grateful & I know they will be too! xoxo
