Bring Hilary home from Vietnam
My mum Hilary is in a critical medical condition in Vietnam and needs to come back to home to Geelong urgently before the borders close. She has tested negative for COVID-19, however she is experiencing seizures and asthma attacks.
She is currently in ICU and the doctors are urging us to get her home. As the situation is changing rapidly so are her options for returning home. At this stage, we are likely looking at either a medevac or medical assisted flight to get her home.
This will cost upwards of $30,000 for a Medical companion on a commercial flight or 150k-200k if there is a requirement for a full medical evacuation flight and is unlikely to be covered by travel insurance. In fact, the insurers have told me our situation is "not looking good."
Flights are being cancelled every day and the price of medically assisted air travel is skyrocketing. Please help me get mum back home to Australia for her urgent medical treatment before the borders close.
What happened?
My mum ⁴was on holiday in Vietnam when her hotel got shut down and she was taken into quarantine due to the COVID-19 concerns.
Everyone was removed from the hotel by ambulance and police escort. They were then placed in a rundown hotel that hasn't been used in years. The conditions were horrendous — they were having to wait hours for food, there was no air-conditioning and toilets were overflowing and not working.
Under police guard, everyone was in lockdown and not allowed to leave for 14 days. My mum's health took a turn for the worse and she was rushed to the hospital with asthma attacks. From here, she started having seizures.
All donations from this page will go towards getting mum home and covering her medical expenses.
