Please help my mom, Xiomara Carrera!

Friends and Family,

 

Over this past weekend, our family has abruptly been shaken by very difficult news. My mom, Xiomara Carrera ( Mrs. Carrera) was taken to the Emergency Room at Baptist Hospital with severe neck pain. She lost most of her motor skill functions and abilities like buttoning a blouse or holding a pencil. After extensive diagnostic testing and imaging she was diagnosed with severe spinal cord compression and spinal cord injury to her neck. Her neck is currently compromised from C2-T2 requiring her to have immediate emergency spinal cord surgery. Her surgery will require cutting out most of the neck vertebrae bones and fusing metal rods down her back to create stability. Without this surgery she could be paralyzed from the neck down. The surgery is very extensive and will take many hours. It will be a very long road to her recovery. During this recovery time she is not allowed to work. She must be resting to ensure proper fusion and healing to her spinal cord and surrounding tissues.

I have created this Go Fund me page for her because I know the emotional burden that awaits but also the financial burden that comes with along with the surgery expenses having to be absent from work for months. My mom is not one to ask for anything, on the contrary she is a giver. So I have taken it upon myself to create this for her. She does not know I did this for her but it's the least I can do as one of my ways to help my mom and dad.

 

A little bit about my mom..

She is a wife, mom of 2 and a grandmother to 3 almost four grandchildren, Giancarlos, Gianna, Alejandro, and baby girl due next year which are her world. She is a teacher and that is her pride and joy. She has been a teacher for decades and adores her profession.

Many of you have had the joy of meeting my mom and can attest what a special woman she is. She wears her heart on her sleeve. She makes a special impact in all the lives of her students, her coworkers, her community, and all that come in contact with her.

For those that know my mom, you all know she is a woman of faith and is one of the most positive people I know. She is a giver and loves to serve her family, friends and community.

Out of all the devastating news she has received, what has impacted her the most is having to leave her students behind and not being able to return to her classroom. She is heartbroken, frustrated and scared.

My intension with this fundraiser is to be able to provide her with some relief in the upcoming months that she will be homebound and unable to work. The stress of her knowing she has a cushion can hopefully aid in her recovery. Please feel free to contact me directly for any updates. She will be out of commission for quite a while.
