My mom, Keri, has been diagnosed with Stage 4 Metastatic Breast cancer. In 2018, she was diagnosed with Stage 2 Breast cancer, resulting in chemotherapy and radiation treatment. She hasn't been allowed to work since her chemotherapy due to the illnesses she continued to acquire, and she likely will never be able to again. For years my mom has been asking for imaging on her leg, but they continued to tell her it was nothing, sending her to physical therapy where they would inevitably make her situation more painful. Her doctors eventually gave her imaging on her hip, where they stumbled across a 4.9-centimeter lesion in her right femur. After an MRI and a PET-scan, they discovered tumors in her left hip and neck. Her femur is effectively deteriorating, and she needs surgery to get a rod placed in it. She will also start radiation, though she thankfully may not need to have chemotherapy and instead get the alternative pill. Going upstairs to get to her bed and shower has been a nearly impossible task for my mom for years, and with her surgery, she will no longer be able to go up the stairs. My brother and I are working to help my mom save for these medical expenses as well as a new one-floor home. Still, there's an overwhelming amount of money necessary for everything my mom needs, and it's incredibly difficult when she, as a single mother, isn't working either. My goal is to make my mom's last years of her life the best I possibly can.
