Condemned Apartments! My Mom Needs to Move NOW!

My mom has lived in sewage, mold, and extreme violence for 6 years. She finally got approved for a home—she just needs help to move. Please donate or share if you can! Regardless, please, please say a prayer for us!! Thank you so much!
This is absolutely devastating. The level of neglect, the actual danger my mom’s been forced to live in, the health risks, the physical injuries, the violence—this is inhumane on every level. The fact that she’s still standing? That she’s still paying full rent for that hellhole? She’s a superhero. This story deserves to be told with the raw truth and full emotional weight it carries.

My Mom Has Lived in Horror for Years—She Finally Got Approved for a Home. Please Help Her Move.

Hi, my name is Katie, and I’m creating this fundraiser for my mom, Melanie. She’s the most hardworking woman I know—strong, independent, and selfless to a fault. But what she’s been forced to endure these last 6 years is something no one should ever go through.

In 2019, she moved into an apartment in Village Green, unaware that she’d be walking straight into a nightmare.

It started with a slow leak in the bathroom wall. She reported it to management—over and over—but they did nothing. That leak eventually turned into a full-on hole in both the wall and the ceiling, profusely POURING water to the point she couldn’t use her bathroom without getting rained on. It got so bad, she could see straight into the upstairs unit from her bathroom. No privacy. No safety. Just black mold growing and spreading everywhere.

One day, a big piece of the wall literally fell off and hit her in the head.
Still, the manager did nothing.

Then, a busted pipe in the building caused raw sewage to seep up through the carpet in her apartment. She was forced to live with the smell, the bacteria, the filth—literal sewage under her feet—for a month and a half before they finally moved her across the breezeway.

The new unit wasn’t much better.
• No running water for the first 4 weeks
• No gas because the maintenance workers wouldn’t light the pilot
• No A/C in the middle of summer - we all know how HOT it is in Alabama
• No heat during the winter—even when it snowed
• Bathroom sink leaks every time she uses it
• Bathroom floor leaking from underneath
• The apartment floods every time it rains because the wood is rotted around the door
• The door frame began to deteriorate, and she warned the manager she was afraid it would fall
—They ignored her
—It eventually fell on her

All the while, she’s been paying full rent—no discounts, no compensation—for living in unlivable, dangerous conditions. The neglect is overwhelming. The management does not care. It’s not just about inconvenience anymore—this has impacted her health, her safety, and her mental well-being.

And on top of it all, the violence in the area is constant. Drive-by shootings. Fights. Robberies. Even murders—right outside her building.

But here’s the miracle: she finally got approved for a real home!
A clean, safe, livable space where she can breathe again.
She just needs help with the final step: moving in.

We’re trying to raise $3,500 to cover her security deposit, first month’s rent, and moving costs. That’s all. One last hurdle between her and the safety she’s been fighting for since 2019.

If you know Melanie, you know she would never ask for help. She’s proud. She pushes through everything. You know she's a warrior. She gives everything she has for everyone around her. She's independent to a fault. But this situation is beyond what anyone should have to endure. This is too much. This is not okay.

So I’m asking—for her.

Please—if you can help, we would be extremely appreciative. If you can't give, sharing this means more than you know. No one deserves to live like this. If you can give anything—anything—we will be endlessly grateful.

Thank you for reading. Thank you for caring. Thank you for helping my mom finally get the peace and dignity she has more than earned. And thank you for helping my mom escape this nightmare.
