Please Help My Family Recover From Flood Devastation!

On August 19th, the Echeverria Family (my uncle, aunt, and cousins) suffered flooding that destroyed their home and filled their basement from floor to ceiling with rain and sewage water due to the heavy rains in the East Setauket area of Long Island, NY. A family member who was asleep in the basement woke up after hearing the sound of rushing water. The force of the water then made the door burst open and within seconds she was in waist-high water. She ran up the stairs and had only seconds to escape before the water reached the basement ceiling (9 feet of water). Family members who lived in the basement lost absolutely EVERYTHING and they do not have flood insurance. This hard-working family also lost their means of transportation when their vehicles ended up submerged in water. They had put every hard-earned penny they had into their home and are now completely broke. Sadly, they lack the financial means to repair and make their home safe and livable again for their 3 children, 2 year-old grandchild and their 97 year-old grandmother who also lives with them and who suffers from dementia and diabetes. As you can imagine, grandma is extremely confused and agitated by these events, and by them being currently displaced.

Your donation, however large or small, would go towards helping them buy the basic necessities such as underwear, socks, toiletries, a few clothing items, etc., and to also help them make emergency home repairs related to the extreme water damage. Your contribution will help them with water removal, treating for mold, repair waterlogged floors and walls, etc.

We are all doing our best to help them in whatever way possible so we can lessen the trauma they are experiencing during this very difficult time. All the funds collected will be sent directly to them via a bank transfer and will go towards covering some of the astronomical cost of getting their home free of mold, electrical hazards, construction materials to repair walls, flooring, mechanical work to repair the vehicles submerged under water, basic personal necessities like toiletries, clothes, shoes so my cousins can go to work, etc. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your prayers and for any help you can provide to make this family’s home livable again.
