Courtney’s Hodgkin’s Lymphoma Story
On August 3, 2021 our friend Courtney who is just 35 years old was diagnosed with Stage 3 Hodgkin's Lymphoma; a type of blood cancer that affects the lymphatic system. It came as a shock to us all. Our happy-go-lucky girl has been dealt with the pain of battling Cancer. There are good days and there are bad days; but ultimately through all this Courtney has decided to take on the battle with courage, strength and positivity. And most importantly, a smile.
Background: For the past 2+ years, Courtney struggled with a rash localized to her lower legs (which we later learned is called a “Lymphoma rash”) and a lump that presented itself above her left clavicle bone. After countless visits to dermatologists and allergists where Courtney was dismissed with dermatitis. Courtney’s Primary Care Physician decided to run bloodwork. Upon reviewing these results, it was recommended that Courtney be seen at Florida Cancer Specialists where she was hooked up with her Oncologist, Dr. Shah. After just two treatments, Courtney’s “Lymphoma Rash” began to heal.
After a surgical biopsy of the lump and additional bloodwork it was confirmed that Courtney had Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. Next came a bone marrow biopsy (Two of them, ouch!) which determined the stage of Courtney’s Cancer (3). Courtney has cancerous masses on her spleen, around her heart, in her armpits, neck and back. She’s had CT Scans, PETSCANS, Zarxio shots, bloodwork, a port placement – the list goes
on.
Despite an intense chemotherapy schedule (2 cycles ABVD complete and now in the midst of cycle number two of BEACOPP), Courtney continues to work as much as possible – because that’s just who she is. Both Courtney and Jennifer would never ask for money. All they would ask is for your love and support. Having said that, many of our friends and family have asked to provide some financial support knowing that Courtney and Jennifer’s work schedules have been severely impacted. Any contributions made will be put towards medical expenses (treatments, copays, prescriptions), household bills/utilities, groceries and any financial needs that continue to arise. Bills do not stop arriving in the mail just because you have Cancer, so anything you can donate will be truly appreciated. Let’s help Courtney and Jennifer make Courtney’s health the number one priority.
If the ability to financially assist is not currently available or something you do not wish to do, giving this page a share is greatly appreciated and prayer is always welcomed.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
