Please Help My Daughter Become the Nurse She Dreams to Be.

Hello, my name is Dolores Montemayor, and I’m writing to you not only as a mother, but as a mother who is doing everything in her power to keep her daughter’s dream from slipping away.
My daughter, Kayla Mortera, has always had a deep, unwavering desire to become a nurse. She enrolled at CNI College and has spent the last two years pouring her heart and soul into her education. She was supposed to graduate this coming August, and she worked incredibly hard to get there—juggling long clinical hours, intensive coursework, and personal challenges, all with compassion and grace.
But in March, we received devastating news. The school informed us that they could no longer offer Kayla the financial aid, grants, or loans she had been depending on. To continue her education and graduate, Kayla would now need to pay $33,833.16 out of pocket. Of that, $12,500 is due upfront by June 17 just to be reinstated. The remaining $20,000 would be financed through a loan due by February 2026—a future burden we are already terrified of facing.
Kayla was forced to make the heartbreaking decision to pause her education—not because she lacked ability or determination, but because we simply didn’t have the means to keep going. As her mother, and as an LVN who understands what it means to care for others, I’ve been working double shifts to try to save for her tuition while supporting our family. But no matter how many hours I work, it has been nearly impossible to come up with that much money while still putting food on the table.
On top of everything, I suffer from multiple heart conditions and now live with a pacemaker due to complications from COVID and other health issues. Every day is a struggle—physically, emotionally, and financially. Still, I do everything I can, because I refuse to give up on my daughter’s future.
After her education was put on hold, Kayla didn’t give up either. She tried to support herself by taking on several part-time jobs. But life threw her yet another challenge—her medically diagnosed eczema, which she’s had since childhood, flared up severely. Her condition became so painful and debilitating that she could no longer work. Her skin would crack and bleed, becoming inflamed and exposed, making even basic physical tasks unbearable. Yet through it all, she continues to remain hopeful, and she comforts me when I should be the one comforting her.
As a family, we’ve done everything we can—cutting back on all expenses, applying for every form of aid, and working every extra shift. But the burden is just too heavy now. We are in dire straits, and this GoFundMe is truly our last hope.
We need to raise $12,500 by June 17 so Kayla can return to school and stay on track to graduate in February 2026. While the school will cover the remaining $20,000 through a loan, that future debt still weighs heavily on us, as we are already struggling to meet our basic needs.
I am humbly asking you—from one heart to another—please help us if you can. Kayla has a true calling to be a nurse. She is kind, hardworking, and selfless, and she dreams not only of caring for others, but of lifting our family out of hardship. Any amount you can give, no matter how small, will bring us closer to that dream.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for reading, for caring, and for helping us hold on to hope.
May God bless you for your generosity.
With love and gratitude,
Dolores M.
