Financial Hardship from Surgery Complications

On November 26th, 2021 my Dad got up to use the bathroom @ 5am , he passed out and fell. He was taken to the hospital, the Doctor found out that he needed open heart surgery. Over the months , my Dad was put through a lot of tests and procedures to clear him for heart surgery. One of the scans showed a lesion on his left kidney , the Doctor told him that it was cancer and it needed to be removed before heart surgery. February 24th, 2022 kidney surgery was scheduled, it would take 2.5 hours to remove the lesion. About 5 hours into the surgery my family became very worried. It was about 8pm when the Doctor finally called my mom to tell her the most devastating news. There were many complications and mistakes made during his surgery , the Doctor cut my Dads aorta artery , which caused a significant amount of blood loss. My dad lost 6 units of blood and required a blood transfusion. The same Doctor removed my Dads entire kidney instead of removing the small lesion. My Dad was placed in ICU on a ventilator. It seemed like a dream, a bad nightmare, this is not happening. My Dad drove himself to the hospital and now he is unresponsive in ICU. My family was in disbelief. Over the next week in ICU my dad developed pneumonia, we did not think he would make it another day. Thankfully, there were angels inside that hospital and GOD was watching over him. My Dad slowly improved and was moved to a different floor. After two weeks , my Dad was able to come home. He is still on a long road to recovery , he uses a walker to get around , and is becoming more depressed. He has to get strong enough for heart surgery. The Doctor who did the kidney surgery told my mom & dad that he had good news , he said ,” the lesion was not cancer”. Then why was my Dad’s entire kidney removed ? The surgery did not need to happen. I am very thankful of the Doctor who repaired my Dads artery and I am thankful of the nurses who took care of my Dad.
The picture is of my Dad at the hospital after he passed out , and discovered he needed to have heart surgery.
Thank you for reading my Dad’s story.
