He's always been my hero, my knight in shining armour. Now he's the one who needs help.
My father was diagnosed with Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis when he was just 16 years old. Crohn's is an inflammatory bowel disease that causes the tissues of the digestive tract to swell. It is an extremely painful and draining disease, causing those who have it to deal with pain, fatigue and malnutrition throughout their whole life.
I grew up watching my father struggle with gaining weight and being in constant pain. In his early thirties, Jeff needed his first emergency surgery, causing him to lose a chunk of his bowels and causing him to require the use of an ostomy.
Jeff maintained his disease for many years, through his restrictive diet and taxing medication, he worked full-time driving transport trucks and doing small construction jobs to help provide for his small family. He is required to have regularly scheduled medication infusions, which suppress his immune system, this caused him to have many infections, the worst was in 2019 when a hidden pocket of his bowel became infected and we almost lost him. Through another emergency surgery, another large amount was taken in order to save him. This left Jeff with just inches left of his digestive tract.
This has caused Jeff to develop Small bowel syndrome. His body cannot absorb enough of the nutrients from just eating to maintain itself. He now needs daily intravenous infusions of fluids and vitamins to keep him stable. My father has lost 40 pounds in the last two months.
To keep him out of the hospital, he’s required to acquire his infusion pump. A cost of $3000.00 plus - of which we are asking help for. Additionally, we are looking for funding to assist in the addition of a small basic accessible bathroom on the main floor of the house, as stairs are too much of a strain on his body.
Please help in any way you can. My father is now a grandfather to two beautiful babies who love him and want to see him stay home, and healthy.
