Hi, my name is Lexi, and I'm fundraising for my dad, Mitch Johnson.
At 65 years old, my dad's lifelong dream of building a self-sustaining, off-grid home was almost complete after working tirelessly for two years, with his sweet dog Mya by his side.
On the morning of September 20th, his cabin and lifelong dream in Lebanon, Missouri, burned to the ground. He lost everything, including Mya's litter of 9 puppies, born three days earlier. We are brokenhearted and devastated, most of all, my dad and Mya.
My dad suffered 3rd and 2nd-degree burns on his back, arms, and feet trying to save the puppies. He was taken to Springfield Mercy Hospital where he received medical care for his burns and smoke inhalation. We are so grateful that he and Mya are alive and want him to know how supported he is while he heals. He never asks for help, so I'm asking on his behalf.
Please rally behind my dad and help him recover and rebuild. Nothing was insured; we estimate it was around a $350,000 total loss. He poured everything he had into this place and lost everything. Let's show him it's possible to build again.
Thank you so much for reading and for all your love, support, and prayers during this heartbreaking time. We lean on you and appreciate you greatly.
Love,
Lexi, Brandt, Britni, Ian, and Yvette
Updates:
9/21 Earlier this morning, my brother Brandt and his fiance Mikaella flew to Missouri to be with my dad. They are staying in a hotel and will drive him and Mya to California, where he will continue to recover in Crestline.
My sister Britni has shipped clothes, shoes, and a phone. We are working on replenishing the essentials that were lost.
Mya is struggling with the loss of her puppies and we are working on finding a litter from a local shelter for her to foster.
