Please Help My Dad, David Armstrong Fight Cancer

Hi, I'm Precious Armstrong. I am fundraising for my dad.

Let me tell you about my dad, David Armstrong, Loving Father, Grandfather, dedicated friend, and extraordinary Leader.

He has been taking care of others his entire life while putting his needs aside. If you had a need, he found a way to resolve it, took it as his responsibility to see it through and didn't stop until that person was taken care of, secure, confident and at ease. He is the one you want in any dire situation, speaking up when others remain quiet; he’s a protector, head on a swivel, sits facing the door, pumps your gas and cleans your windows, I got your 6, competent type of Man.

As a Boss, he mentors and molds others to become better versions of themselves, enabling them through knowledge and providing them the opportunity to carve out success in their lives. He’s the Boss that goes to bat for his team, fighting for what is fair and holding others accountable to do the right thing in all situations.

As a father, at the early age of 19, he was a single Dad taking on 100% of the responsibility of raising his daughter, making sure I had it better than he did.

On February 18th, 2022, Dad was handed a cancer diagnosis. He took the day to process, then got right to it. He sold his truck to pay for funeral arrangements. Set up the slew of upcoming doctor’s appointments that would take place in short order. Made the trip to see his Grandson and deliver his “1st Birthday Presents” since he knew that treatment wouldn’t allow him to make the trip up in a few weeks. Re-arranged some bills and cut out any non-essentials, knowing that the medical debt would pile up as he began this journey.

My Dad started working when he was 13 years old and plans to continue with his responsibility in his current role for as long as physically possible. His work ethic is second to none and has always been high gear, nose to the grindstone, and he’s not letting this take him out easily.

It's been less than a month, and he has over $15K in medical bills to date. This does not include any upcoming surgeries, radiation, and chemo treatments. He has already taken time off from work for tests, procedures, and doctor visits. We are unsure what the insurance will cover. Co-pays, specialty MRIs and scans add to the cost. Unfortunately, he will not meet the requirements to qualify for FMLA but can take off work without pay, adding to the financial burden. The tumor's location makes this a very challenging cancer to treat and could likely leave him with a colostomy bag for the rest of his life.

The difficulty of not knowing the family's medical history adds to this scenario. When Dad was born, he was given up for adoption. He was not aware of this until he later found out as an adult. The blood test revealed this is hereditary cancer. The doctors stressed it’s paramount that his children and grandchildren be tested regularly, and it’s possible they too have the gene.

Dad thought he was in overall good health, never expecting to face this at the age of 49. He has difficulty reaching out to others for help. He has always been determined to take care of things himself. However, when a possible life-ending diagnosis enters your life, you quickly learn your limits. He now uses handicap parking and even a wheelchair at times because his body will not allow him to sit, stand, or walk for any measurable length of time.

Dad knows he needs some financial help to do this. Please share this across all forms of social media in hopes of getting this in front of as many people as possible who would consider donating. If we can reach just 5,000 people, donating $20 each, we can achieve this goal. If you cannot donate but understand the power of prayer, please keep Dad in your prayers. He, along with his family, thanks and appreciate you!
