PLEASE HELP MR. MARSHMELLOW

Mr. MARSHMELLOW is a stray Maltese mix found wandering the streets in my neighborhood. He was filthy, with severely matted hair all over his body. He has eye boogers the size of large black olives under each eye that have built up over time and seem to be glued to his face. It appears his toenails have not been trimmed in a long time as they had curled into almost a complete circle. As we were trying to trim some of the matted hair away, we discovered he was also infested with fleas. I tried giving him a bath using Dawn dish soap, but it didn't kill all of them. His breath is horrible, and I suspected some issues with his teeth and gums.

I took him to the vet clinic this morning to have him checked over. He was tested for heartworms, but thankfully it came back negative. They also did a fecal exam and we should get the results tomorrow. They trimmed his toenails and treated him for fleas. I asked them to remove the globs from his face, but they said they are so bad they would have to sedate him to do it. His biggest issue now seems to be his periodontal disease. The vet said that most of his teeth would most likely have to come out. When they do the surgery on his mouth, they will also remove the globs from his face.

When he was found, he actually had a collar and tag that said, "MR. MARSHMELLOW. IF LOST CALL MOM." There was a phone number, but when called, the person said they didn’t own a dog. The vet believes Mr. Marshmellow to be about six years old.

I plan to get Mr. Marshmellow (Marshy) back to good health so we can rehome him with a loving family. He is such a sweet little cuddle bug and wants nothing more than to be a happy little lap dog. He has never acted scared at all. I think he is just happy to be found and off the streets.

The vet said with all the treatments, vaccines and surgery for his teeth and face, the cost could be anywhere between $800 and $1000. Any help you can give toward helping Mr. Marshmellow have a second chance at a happy life would be sincerely appreciated.
