Hello, thank you for taking the time out to read this message. This is extremely hard to do; it’s not easy to open up to share your hardships and challenges.

My name is Monica Branch, older sister of Larry. Currently, I am struggling with my mental health, which has been going on for some time now. It has gotten worse over time, especially within the last 2 years, which has led me to not be able to work. I was diagnosed with CPTSD (complex post-traumatic stress disorder), ADHD, anxiety, major depression, PCOS, and hypertension. CPTSD is the most recent. I've never heard of it until they told me that's what I suffer from. They’re also exploring BPD (borderline personality disorder) due to me masking so well. I’ve been in the psych ward for suicidal issues, intense outpatient therapy, and group therapy, to name a few. I continue to get worse at this point. I have gone through my savings, my 401k, and my credit cards. While all of this is going on, my brother had a severe stroke. He has been through a lot (surgeries, ventilator, tracheotomy, pneumonia). Larry also needs to have a metal plate inserted to protect his brain. He has fallen twice in the facility during the night.

If it wasn’t for a friend checking in on him and getting Larry into an ambulance asap when he first had the stroke, Larry would not have made it or been worse off. Currently, my brother can’t speak nor eat by mouth. He is working on walking with assistance and is getting stronger as time goes on. We are trying to get him to use an iPad to communicate as well, but it is very difficult. During this time, I have been traveling back and forth from Virginia to NYC periodically for my medical needs (testing, labs, meds) and once to move out of my place. I had to give up my place due to lack of funds as well as sell a lot of my things to make ends meet and to travel. I have received help from some family and friends, but it’s a lot to fund every movement (toiletries, food, carfare, bills, laundry, etc.). My medical doctors are in Virginia while Larry’s medical team is in NYC. Since my brother can’t speak, it makes it hard for me to get things done on his behalf at times. Legally, I am not able to be his power of attorney due to his status. All of this has broken me to my core. Trying to balance both of our needs is overwhelming. I am supposed to protect my little brother. It is my job to advocate for him, make sure he is cleaned properly, changed, progressing to leave rehab, and that no one is mistreating him—things of that nature. While I am struggling mentally and financially, I need to lean on my community if I can. I am in over my head, and I need your help. I would like to get Larry home by December. It would be easier to have him in the home, and we can travel together for appointments or have in-house visits. This will ensure that everyone is doing their job if I am present at all interactions. I am having a hard time in the facility that he is in to make sure he is taken care of in a timely fashion and that the information that I am getting is truthful. The commute to him is about an hour and 30 minutes or longer—one way. There are some things I would need to take care of in the home in order for him to be allowed to leave rehab. They will not release him into the home as it currently stands. So, I am asking for your help to get his place in functioning order, bills up to date, as well as a few clothing items for easy dressing/undressing. Some items I am able to get medically but not all. Also, I am asking for help so I can bring things I still have from my place to put in Larry’s (some cleaning objects and tools, shelving, TV, kitchen items, bedding, to name a few). If you can’t assist with funding, we do appreciate prayers. If you want to visit Larry and/or me, I can give the info for that. Help with cleaning or organizing would also be a great help. Information to help me transfer my medical to NYC (it is not healthy for me to go without my medication at this time).
