Certified Therapy Dog “Moe” Is doing Great!
Many would wonder, even the most vigilant animal lovers, why would you go to this degree to save an animal? To that I would respond, you haven't met Moe.
As soon as I met him I was in, hook line and sinker. He is a gentle, kind, even tempered and easy going guy which makes him the perfect Certified Therapy Dog. He's worked all over our community - the high school, working with people who are developmentally disabled, hospital visits, and many many visits with preschool children. Just his presence helps to sooth and heal the humans he meets. Then....you get in in the show ring or on the dock diving platform and he comes alive! It's what he loves to do and he's great at it. In 2017 her reached #4 Rottweiler ranked in the US and was invited to show at the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show in Madison Square Garden, reported on by the Cape Cod Times, The Vineyard Gazette and The Martha's Vineyard Times. There he won 1st Award of Merit (AOM)! Following that up in his semi retirement 2018 -2019 he earned Dock Diving titles - Junior and Senior Advanced. Moe is a well rounded working dog, and he works hard at it.
January 14th we knew he wasn't feeling well, by the next morning we all knew was Moe was in dire trouble. With the help and dedication of his vet Dr. Kirsten Sauter, we were able to get him immediately on the ferry and over to Cape Cod Veterinary Specialists. For several horrifically agonizing days the specialists couldn't figure out what was the cause of this life threatening condition. His blood sugar was through the roof, all of his organs were shutting down and he was hemorrhaging a lot of blood. Then the call came in on January 17 from Dr. Sauter that he had tested positive for the tick disease Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever...and then it began to come together. The new antibiotics that targeted the disease were added and we thought Thank God this will cure the problem. Moe had so much recovery to do in all of his organs though, that even with knowing what caused this collapse and how to treat it, it wasn't necessarily going to work. The next few days were excruciatingly hard, holding our breath, waiting and hoping for even the smallest improvement.
We let Moe be the lead on how and if to proceed with his care, not wanting him to suffer. Every 24 hours we would assess if Moe still wanted to be here and fight this. True to his character... every minute it was.....
Yes He Did!
Slowly the numbers started to get better...so another 24 hours we are in. A pneumonia scare turns things backwards and devastated all of us, but he's rebounded and we are all breathing a collective humungous sigh of relief.
Moe is not out of the woods yet, but can see the tree line. Moe is eating, super happy to see his people, especially Sean, Becky and the boys ( and sometimes me the Cookie Lady, and Boom Booms mom too). He has the vet staff wrapped around his finger and more importantly his numbers are good.
The next few days are focused on keeping his digestion on track, his blood sugars normal and beginning to to physical therapy to get him back on his feet. We are crossing our fingers and toes that maybe he will be able to come home this week.
This has been a heroic effort on so many. For all of you who have donated and shared our Go Fund Me page, from the bottom of all of our hearts, especially Moe, we thank you!The vet bills have become an extraordinary huge so we're all
reaching out for help. Please....give what you can, reach out to animal lovers and organizations,
share this page on facebook, etc... Whatever you can do to help would be greatly appreciated.
Please help my friend Moe!
Thank You.
