Please Help Mikey Walk Again

Michael "Mikey" Hulsmeier is an award-winning drummer and half of the Caribbean music production team De Red Boyz.

In early January 2024, Mikey was involved in a car accident that severely fractured his right hip and broke off a part of the acetabulum.

Doctors performed a rehabilitative hip procedure, and Mikey was placed in skeletal traction for eight weeks.

Everyone hoped that this would lead to his healing, but unfortunately, due to the severity of the damage, this has not been the case. To date, Mikey has been practically bedridden and remains in chronic pain.

Following a recent X-ray, doctors determined that Mikey must urgently see an orthopedic trauma surgeon to have a complex hip replacement procedure.

This type of surgery is not available in Barbados or the Caribbean. Mikey has been referred to a doctor at The London Clinic in the United Kingdom who specializes in pelvic and acetabular fractures.

Without this procedure, Mikey will never walk unaided or work again as a professional drummer, and he will live in acute pain and debilitating discomfort, with a significantly reduced quality of life.

Mikey's hip surgery, rehabilitation, and travel expenses are estimated to cost BDS$125,000.00, and any support you can give would be greatly appreciated.

Since GoFundMe does not operate in Barbados, John Roett, who is spearheading Mikey's rehabilitation fundraising efforts, asked me to set up this campaign as I am based in the US.
