Susan Michelle Devilbiss, at the age of 60, was diagnosed with breast cancer on November 29th, 2019, the day after Thanksgiving. She had gone to the doctor for a routine mammogram and was called back for a suspicious area on the right breast. It was recommended that she have a biopsy, which then came back positive for cancer in two spots. Michelle was told that she was HER/2 positive, meaning that her breast cancer recurrence rate is higher than most. Michelle’s surgery was initially scheduled for January 14th, but had to be rescheduled for February 4th because she became ill. Her surgery consisted of a lumpectomy at the site of the cancer as well as the removal of 3 lymph nodes.
The surgery was 4-5 hours, followed by 3-4 weeks of recovery. Once she is healed from surgery, she will begin radiation, followed by chemotherapy and 5 years of hormone therapy pills.
We are putting together this gofundme to assist in alleviating some of the financial worries Susan Michelle and her husband are dealing with and help with the stress of it all. It's one thing we can do for her and one less thing she will need to worry about.
For those of you who do not know Susan Michelle:
Susan goes by Michelle, Aunt Shelly, and Sister. Michelle is married to her best friend, she is the second oldest of four sisters, and the most amazing aunt to seven nieces and nephews. Michelle is a beautiful soul who lights up every room that she walks into.
She has been a beautician all of her life. Her job revolves around making people feel beautiful both inside and out. Whether you meet her on the street, in a store, at the salon, or on the subway, you cannot escape her beautiful smile and charm. Her giving has no bounds. It is not uncommon for her to quite literally give someone the shirt off of her back.
Her medical insurance covers the basic cost of her surgeries and treatments. However, there is still a lot that it does not account for. Each round of chemo (6 sessions) and radiation alone cost approximately $30,000 each. Not to mention all the doctor visits, testing, and medicine for months to come. She will also need to cover living expenses while she is going through treatment and healing, as she will not be able to work through the entire process.
Since she was diagnosed, Michelle’s main focus has been on doctors appointment, treatments, surgeries, and therapy. While she plans to live as normal a life as possible, right now this is her reality. Although Michelle has been incredibly positive and extremely grateful during this entire experience, she needs the support of her family and friends to make this fight a little bit easier.
Please share this link, donate if you can, and keep Michelle in your prayers. We deeply appreciate any support that you can offer through this process. Thank you.
