Hi, my name is Lakeita Miller. Those of you who know me, know that my mom is Michelle Gantt. What you may not know, is that on November 8, 2023, a car hit my mom while she was crossing the street to go to work at Geraci’s Restaurant in University Heights. She has worked there for the past 17 years and loves her job. She got off the bus and as she was crossing the crosswalk, the driver failed to yield. The driver was cited for his negligence. My mom lay in the street crying and in pain and there was blood everywhere. Thankfully, the University Heights’s first response team got there quickly. My mom was rushed to University Hospital in Cleveland and admitted to surgery. She suffered broken bones in both legs, broken ribs, her right arm and wrist were broken, and a lot of bruises and cuts. As of today, 12/8/2023, one month later, my mom is still in the hospital recovering. She has a long road ahead. Once she is released from the hospital, she is going to require physical therapy, home health aid, and a lot of rehabilitation.
I’m seeking your kindness and generosity this holiday season to help my mother with her accumulating bills and many expenses. As I mentioned above, my mom has worked at the same pizza shop for the past 17 years. The owners and staff has been so supportive. We have all have been working together as a whole to get mom the help she needs. She is a hard worker and a humble woman. She had a little savings for Christmas this year, which she has had to use to pay her rent and bills for December because no paychecks are coming in. However, my mom is scared her upcoming bills won’t be covered and she may be evicted. She doesn’t know how she is going to afford the care she needs to recover because insurance only covers so much. My family, Geraci’s and our attorneys are working to get my mom back on her feet financially. While we wait for insurance, This GoFund me is the start of our campaign to help her focus straight on recovery and not her expenses. And it’s Christmastime. Imagine the heartbreak of being a grandmother unable to purchase toys and gifts for your 15 grandchildren because you are lying in a hospital bed with multiple broken bones through no fault of your own. Yes, she has sought legal counsel but the legal system takes time. Landlords and light bills don’t wait for your case to be settled or go to court. And sadly insurance companies take advantage of people who are in desperate situations and make very low offers because they are aware that people will take low sums due to tremendous need.
She took care of five of us growing up. She did it as a single mom mostly. We are doing our best to help, but our resources are very limited. I’m asking you to please consider donating to help my mother. I know everyone’s situation is different, and if you can’t donate, please pray for my mother’s recovery. You can also share this on all of your social media. If you can donate, we are incredibly grateful regardless of the amount. Every gift helps. Collectively it can make a tremendous difference. Your help can ease my mom’s burden and worry. It can allow her to focus on her recovery and getting better versus stressing and crying that she will leave the hospital with no home to go to. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Merry Christmas to each and all of you.
