Hello, my name is Jay. I have cat and his name is Melon. He is the sweetest cat in the world. I don't know how to describes how much me and my husband love him. He is 6 year old right now. In November 2018, we just noticed that his tail was always down and during for the past 6 months, Melon has not been feeling well, and we cannot understand or identify the cause. We have spent countless time and money trying to figure this out. Multiple blood tests, X-rays, Ultrasounds you name it, but nothing detected.
And that was the beginning of my sad day ever in my life. So we finally paid for the MRI which is about $3,200 expenses, and found out that he has something called COMS, Caudal Occipital Malformation Syndrome. Melon has malformation where the bone in the brain area is pinching the brain causing abnormal fluid flow between the brain and the spinal cord. This results in a cavity of fluid within the brain and spinal cord lining. And from the MRI result shown, there are many pockets of fluid in the brain and all along Melon’s spinal cord lining to Melon’s tail. Dr. said, “that’s incredible, never see one in a cat” That scares me. We know, Melon is in pain and he cannot speak out. Melon would hide all day and avoid being touched. Sometimes he would growl when we try to touch him.
We started the treatment for Melon. The medication that he was on could be for the rest of his life to continue reducing the amount of fluid. But no miracle, he was getting worse as the time went by.
We made a decision for the surgery . This surgery has the goal of lessening the bone that pinching the brain, smoothing out the flow of fluid between the brain and spinal cord lining, and therefore eliminating pain and weakness. We ended up paid $7,000
The surgery went well, he came home eating, active and my heart was full of joys but just only one day, story was changed. He had diarrhea and vomiting multiple times. He won't eat anything for the past 24 hours and not response sometimes so we took him back to ER again.
We took him back home from ER, Aug 31, but he is still under critical condition, we have to give him about 8 medications each day and there will be a lot of medical bills coming up in the next 6 months. I'm so afraid that I can't afford to pay for the bills but I will never give up on him. I know money doesn't grow trees but as little as you can, it could help him.
Please help my Melon. I just want to give him a life. I still seeing life in him. I always think after the surgery, I will make him a luckiest cat in the world.
