Hello, my name is Poppy, I am 13 years old and I am currently fundraising to pay for my expedition to the Costa Rican rainforest with Camps International. I want to show my independence in fundraising for my trip, and not relying on my family to pay for it.
Travel is currently planned for summer 2026.
During my expedition I will be involved in a number of conservation projects which will expose me to totally new places and situations and develop my understanding of the world around me; It’ll take me way out of my comfort zone and help me to grow personally and professionally. I will learn about our valuable marine life as I learn to scuba dive; and I will be working alongside conservationists and local people to protect the natural environment, helping to tackle some of the world’s most critical global issues and protect the future of our planet for ours and future generations.
These projects will provide me with an opportunity to integrate with new cultures, speak new languages, and make new friends.
This is a 3 week expedition and along the way I will learn valuable skills in budgeting and financial management as I navigate through my fundraising journey. During the expedition itself, I will develop life skills that will be valuable for my future, such as leadership, teamwork, resilience, decision-making, and cultural sensitivity.
Camps International has positively impacted on the lives of over 120,000 people.
Here are some of the projects which have been completed, and of which I will be involved in during my expedition…
• 280 projects have been completed across 7 countries, and they have 150 permanent staff.
• Constructed 9 medical centres.
• Removed 20,000 tons of marine refuse.
• Protected 250,000 acres of habitat.
• Planted over 1.1 million trees.
• Constructed and improved 50 community centres.
• Built and renovated 96 homes.
• Built 318 toilets and provide safe drinking water.
• Vaccinated and treated 34,000 livestock.
• Supported local children through school improvements.
