I have a story about Elder Abuse that I hope you will listen to. I owned and paid for what was once my beautiful house with my late husband since 1974. Through lies, my ex-daughter-in-law gained control of it without ever paying one cent. I know... I know, I was stupid to let her take advantage of me. She convinced me she was trustworthy and would help me, but she deceived me, and now my world has been turned upside-down.
My ex-daughter-in-law is an enormous Russian woman who is 14 inches taller than I am. As soon as she gained control of my house, she turned on me immediately. She intimidates and threatens me almost daily from the lower level of the house where she continues to reside. She moved her boyfriend in and they have intentionally destroyed my once lovely yard and gardens that I spent 50 years creating and taking care of. I am held hostage inside my section of the house because I fear them and I rarely go out.
When I say Elder Abuse, I mean that my ex-daughter-in-law has physically assaulted me, she verbally abuses me, and she has tried to take my life by removing the lug nuts from the wheels of my car. The near accident on the highway would have been fatal. She assaults and attacks any visitors that try to come and see me, and she monitors my every move with 15 security cameras aimed at me. She has cut off most of my electricity. I can’t begin to describe my discomfort of having no heat or air conditioning as a result.
I’ve gone to court to try and take my house back and evict them. I have won some and lost some in the lower courts. Now my case is before the United States Supreme Court. Never did I think my case would become so important. I feel confident because I have the backing of the ACLU, Yale Law, Berkeley Law School and the American Bar Association, among others.
I need your help though to escape this travesty. I am afraid of my ex-daughter-in-law. She has physically hurt me, and with her boyfriend they have vandalized my home. I am 82 years old and have exhausted my life savings through this ordeal, and need help to pay for my lawyer who is representing me. Can you help? Just $25 or $100 would mean a great deal to me.
Elder Abuse is a serious matter. Please help if you can. I’m just trying to survive this situation. Hopefully, things like this won’t ever happen to you. Please send any amount you can. I will be forever grateful to you.
Thank you,
Sharon
