Dear friends, animal lovers, and kind-hearted individuals,

On Thursday I adopted my beloved six-year-old black lab, Kane, who came into my life as a rescue from a local shelter. Within just three hours of bringing him home, my excitement turned into a frantic rush to the vet. Kane was having difficulties breathing, had a terribly runny nose and a super low energy level.

The vet quickly recognized the urgency of Kane's condition and transferred him to the Veterinary Emergency Group (VEG) for immediate, around-the-clock medical attention. After extensive tests, X Rays, and examinations, Kane has been diagnosed with infectious bronchopneumonia, a highly contagious and potentially life-threatening respiratory infection in dogs.

Infectious bronchopneumonia is a severe respiratory disease that causes inflammation of the bronchial tubes and bronchioles, leading to excessive mucus production, difficulty breathing, and a weakened immune system. Kanes oxygen levels dropped dramatically during his first night so he was intubated and put on oxygen to bring his levels back up, unfortunately this means he will have to stay in critical care longer than we had originally hoped. He requires constant monitoring and care to ensure his recovery.

While I am doing everything I can to support Kane, the cost of his emergency 24-hour care is overwhelming. The accumulated expenses for diagnosis, medication, specialized treatment, and ongoing monitoring have quickly started to pile up. That's why I am turning to the generosity and compassion of my amazing friends, family, and community.
