Help Me Close the Distance: Moving Cross-Country to Be With My Son

Hi everyone, my name is Manny Nunez. I am reaching out to my community today because I need help closing the distance between me and the most important person in my world: my 16-year-old son.

Since 2014, I have been living on the East Coast while he has been in Garden Grove, California, near Los Angeles. We talk for one to two hours almost every night, but as he enters his last two years of high school, a phone screen just isn't enough anymore. He needs his dad, and I need him.

My immediate hope is to raise these funds and make the drive before the 4th of July so my son and I can spend the holiday together. At the very latest, my absolute goal is to be settled in Los Angeles a few weeks before his summer vacation ends, ensuring he has his dad physically present to support him on his first day of junior year.

Unfortunately, my plans to move have been entirely derailed by a relentless series of recent financial setbacks, vehicular accidents, and a hostile living situation that I urgently need to leave. In just the last few months, I have faced:

$2,000+ in damages from a hit-and-run by a van.

$2,000+ in damages after a deer collided with the side of my car.

$1,400 to cover a minor parking bump with a Tesla.

$1,600+ in lost wages due to an unresolvable 8-day glitch in the Uber app.

$600 for a shattered windshield replacement.

$600 in lost income due to severe ice storms preventing me from working.

These back-to-back losses haven't just wiped out my moving fund—they have also severely damaged my credit score. Because of this massive financial drain, my credit is currently too low to qualify for a personal loan to cover the move. While I would normally take the time to rebuild my credit over several months, the hostile living environment I am currently in makes waiting impossible. I need to relocate as soon as possible.

I am trying to raise $4,000 to get back on my feet and make this drive across the country safely.

How the Funds Will Be Used:

Travel Expenses: Gasoline, safe lodging, and food for the cross-country drive to California.

Vehicle Maintenance: Essential repairs and new tires to ensure my car survives the long journey after the recent accidents.
