Dear animal friends, I hope you can help me to save this poor girl .
I will try to explain our story to you, why we are asking for your help. We live for more than 20 years in the campo (rural area) in Mijas the South of Spain. Since we arrived in Spain we have been helping many stray dogs, cats, horses and gave them all shelter in our home untill their last days. We never re-homed them and carried alll the cost ourselves ( I can send you all the picture of all the animal friends we had ) After loosing so many friends over the years we could not bare the thought going through that pain again. So we decided no more...
Than the following horror happened…my wife came home yesterday and heared a gunshot in the mountain in front of our farm and a horrible cry of an animal being hurt. Because it is an area with a lot’s of high bushes and no pathway , she first had to run up to the house to change her slippers for flat shoes. When she climbed her way through the bushes to the top. There was nobody to see, only a trail of blood going to the back side of the mountain. There she found this poor dog hidden away below a bush covered in blood from a wound on her neck. A Huge girl but Skin and Bones, with eyes begging help me please. Getting that big girl of that mountain in the car and in time to the doctor is a story on itself but this poor dog was so brave and kind, never tried to bite or hurt my wife. The doctor was in shock because she found the case of a shotgun in her neck and the poor girl was filled with tiny hail pellets all over her neck and chest. She is shot on very close range and that can only be done when the dog knows and trust you. This is disgusting and heartbreaking that this poor dog has been brought on this mountain to be slauhtered and worst of all by somebody she might have known and trusted.
The doctor said she needs to stay for quite a while under 24/7 care in the hospital because of the lead in her body, the blood lost and dehydration and chance of infection. We will not know if she pulls through yet.
If this poor girl survives, we cannot live with the idea to bring her to an animal shelter after what she has been through and most people who have these type of dogs in Spain, have them for the wrong reasons.
If we get help saving her, she has a loving home with us for the rest of her life. We never ever asked for help with all our other rescues but we have no other choice now.
Hope we can bring her home together with you.
Thank you all for taking the time to read this and the help your able to give, even in supporting thoughts.❤️
❤️Marie

Update;
Marie passed the night but she was in a shock . That’s why they had to do another echo and a Xray of the chest beside several bloodtest, they had to see if she had internal bleeding. The vet told us that he needs to do those tests and the echo every day because although she was not bleeding internal after the first operation it can still happen because of the many hail (lead) inside her. A vain was perforated in the neck bij the hail, which the first doctor fixed yesterday but it can still cause some severe problems in that area He is the most afraid of her getting infections for the fact that she has anemia and Leishmania and her bad fysical condition. If she is going to be more anemic, he has to give her bloodtransfusion. My wife was charged 499€ yesterday for the first day and all the tests.
Marie has to stay at least 6 days more days in this hospital and the cost of that is 212€ A day beside the daily echo, xray and blood tests and as it looks now, she will need that bloodtransfusion of 300€ a bag ( don’t know how many bags she need Than there is another operation they have to do when she is strong enough to sedate
My wife was sitting on the floor with her for an hour, ( longer was not allowed) for whatever may happen… at least she knows there is somebody that cares about her.
Hope she hangs in there❤️

Marie had a little walk with my wife outside the hospital. She was very scared but bit by bit the made a scroll and Marie made a big pipi.
As you can see on the foto, it took all her energy.
She felt very warm, so we that she is not getting an infection. They gave her a local Anesthetic to stitch and clean out the wounds, all the hairs are shaved in the neck and around the wounds, so it is easier to take care of it.
She is still very anemic so tomorrow they decide if she need to get a bloodransfusion.

Marie can come home for the night, to see if it helps to get her spirit up because she is very down. She was scared to go in the car at first but luckely she does trust my wife. Arriving on the farm it looked like she was walking on eggs but coming in the house and when she was allowed to lay next to my wife on that big sofa, it looked like she was living the dream. She stretched her body out and fell a sleep in no time. Marie still has to go into the vet for daycare. She need to be checked on the anemia etcetc she did get the infection we were afraid of, as you can see in the fotos, her neck is full of liquid and part of the skin around the wound is dead already. That all will have to be removed later on. But we do hope that when she is able to sleep in a loving home, it will help her get the will to fight on

The night went ok but Marie scratched open her wounds My wife slept next to her but it must have happened when she slept. The good news is, Marie did her first big message in 3 days.
Hello all…Like we said yesterday to stay in the 24/7 clinic was to expensive and depressing for Marie, so Marie goes into Rebecca’s clinica Aqua from 10.00- 17.30 (Rebecca is the vet who saved Marie’s life and operated her the first day) Today Rebecca had to clean out the wounds and give Marie the all the medicines and she made another xray and some bloodtests to see if Marie needs the bloodtransfusion or not. The wounds are very bad but Rebecca still has hope for her. Rebecca made foto’s of when Marie came the 22th and of how the wounds looks today. I will show you the foto’s but it is not for the weak hearted. Marie does het utmost best and she eats and drinks a lot but Rebecca said She has a long way to go and need more operations in the future
My wife picked Marie up and she was so happy when she realized that was allowed to go home with my wife and sleep on that huge sofa again.
I keep a diary of Marie on her own facebook page, so you can all stay updated on her well being and her bravery. The way of how she hangs onto life is worth a medal.

Update Monday 29-05-2023
Today Marie was at Rebecca’s clinic again from 10.00-17.30 but she was very down. The cage where she has to stay is off course not so big and I feel so sorry for her Official she should have stayed 24/7 in the hospital but in my opinion being loved and feeling safe is helping animals a lot to recover. Imagen the life she must have had ( she lays herself on the floor with every sudden move or loud sound ) and on top of that being shot, being operated on, brought to a hospital in a small cage 24/7 with all the tests being done by strangers. Beside the financial part I thought this must be to much to coop with for her, she needs hugs and safety, so at least she is with me for the night and weekends and feels bit by bit that this is her new home.
Rebecca took blood and xrays again but I don’t know the results yet. She has send the foto of the wounds to a colleague because they really don’t know if the biggest wound is able to heal like it goes know it's horrible to look at because half of her throat is gone and you can see the yolks and larynx and trachea. The poor poor girl.
