Hi, my name is Dawn. This fundraising quest is one of the more challenging decisions I have had to make, but there is no way for me to accomplish this on my own. It is not easy asking for help. I pride myself on being independent, strong and the person others come to for assistance. I am a single parent with absolutely no assistance from any other source. Last November I was diagnosed with a cataract in my left eye. I thought I would have time to figure out how to get it taken care of. That is not so. I saw another specialist this week and was told it is a posterior subcapsular cataract. They are rare making unless than 10% of all cataracts, they are aggressive, leading to blindness in a relatively short amount of time. It's already at the point where in just 7 months, I can only see shapes and light colors. I could have dealt with this, but as I was trying to deny the reality knowing something was different with my right eye the specialist confirmed there is also one in the right eye. If history repeats itself I have maybe a good 6 months before I am unable to work, drive or worst of all not see my beautiful babies faces. I have worked so hard to get where I am, 7 years as a social worker with the same company. Putting myself through college as a single parent. Trying to raise my kids the right way. I just can't imagine something as stupid as cataracts taking that all away. I also don't have medical insurance. The premiums were high and deductibles even higher.
