Hi everyone
We are the parents of 3.5-year-old Michał, who, besides ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder), has been diagnosed with PANS/PANDAS syndrome - autoimmune encephalitis. His development significantly differs from his peers. Due to his pervasive developmental disorders, he doesn't speak and isn't independent. When someone meets our son, they cannot notice any issues. The reality is completely different. In every daily activity, he needs help and adjustments to his routines. Michał cannot communicate any of his needs or control his emotions. He struggles with obsessive-compulsive disorders. He reacts to every stressful situation with aggression and self-harm.
It's hard for us to come to terms with all of this. This disease destroys the immune system, which instead of fighting pathogens, also attacks its own healthy cells. The disease progresses, and the obsessive-compulsive symptoms increasingly hinder the effective rehabilitation and education of our son!
After detailed diagnostics, Michał qualifies for treatment with immunoglobulin infusions - IVIG. Unfortunately, the costs of monthly therapy, as well as the medications and supplements he takes, have heavily burdened our budget. On average, every six months, we have to undergo costly tests to monitor our son's condition.
Unfortunately, we don't have the possibility of reimbursement for the infusions, and we are solely dependent on private treatment, which is very costly, and time is working against our son's return to health. We dream of a bit of normalcy, which could be provided by immunoglobulin therapy. It is offered by a clinic in Gdańsk, with the cost of one dose being around 6000£ (the amount of medication depends on the child's weight). We need 6 doses of the medication, which is approximately 36.000£.
Despite the fact that we are both professionally active, our savings and income only allow us to cover the previous diagnostics and specialist visits. We are unable to save such a huge amount for immunoglobulins, and the lack of treatment causes permanent brain damage to our son.
We want to stop the progression of the disease as soon as possible. The sooner Michał receives immunoglobulin therapy, the better his chances of a functional future. Unfortunately, we cannot bear the costs of treatment ourselves, so we ask for your help.
We will be very grateful for any kind of assistance in Michał's treatment.
Thank you ❤️
