For the past eight years, I have been the full time caregiver for my mom, who is nearly 90 and is living with Alzheimer's disease. My goal has always been simple: to keep her safe, comfortable, and at home for as long as possible.
Recently her needs have changed significantly.
After a stroke and a hospitalization, my mom came home much weaker than she has been before and now requires considerably more help with everyday care. She currently has a catheter and can barely walk. She is currently working with a physical therapist to regain her strength and confidence. Getting her in and out of bed has become much more difficult.
One of our immediate needs now is a hospital style bed.
My mom is 5"10, so I need to find a bed that is large enough for her to sleep comfortably while also allowing me to safely get her in and out of it and provide the care tat she needs. Im not looking for anything fancy. I'm trying to find a good refurbished hospital bed that will give her proper positioning, Make transfers safer, and allow me to continue caring for her at home.
As anyone who has cared for a parent knows, the expenses don't arrive at one time. Equipment, supplies, medical needs, transportation, household expenses, and the everyday costs of caregiving adds up quickly. medicare does not cover everything, and after eight years of full time caregiving, the financial strain has become more than I can manage alone.
I know there are many people who help, and I don't take anyone's generosity for granted. If you're able to contribute toward my mom's hospital bed and her continuing care at home, I would be enormously grateful. If you can't donate, sharing this fundraiser would mean just as much.
My mom spent 57 years as an operating room nurse caring for other people. Now, at nearly 90, I'm doing everything I can to return tat care and give her the dignity, comfort, and familiarity of being in her own home.
She is happiest here. Sitting in her favorite chair, listening to the music she loves, laughing, eating the foods she enjoys, and sleeping in her own room.
That's what I'm trying to preserve.
Thank you for helping me keep her here.
God bless You,
Paul
