Dear Customers,

I need your help to keep Baba Wu’s Dumplings open for the long term.

As many of you know, I had to temporarily shut the shop. This was because of many serious issues going on at the same time - problems with our factory and problems with our site. So sorry that we had to close the shop.

We have since relocated to a new location, but it has been a bit of a financial burden - large bond to the new landlord, moving and buying heavy equipment, not to mention all the business we lost due to shutting down.

At $5 per dumpling box, we don’t make much money per box, but we still strive to deliver the best quality we can.

Unfortunately, continuing to do this is very hard due to our recent problems with our previous site and our factory machines. I did find band aid fixes for now but they are not going to be sustainable.

For it to be sustainable and long term, I need to bite the bullet and invest in some new machines to continue delivering you the same quality while maintaining the $5 price. I have been talking to many vendors, and they have been quoting me $40,000 to $300,000. Yikes. I am not going to lie, I really need help here.

Why stay at $5? A couple of reasons. It frustrates me to see food prices climb out of reach in this economy. I love the idea of someone being able to get a meal with just a fiver. I also thought the $5 price would help me grow quickly, but lately I have being paying the price of offering too low a price.

So far, I have been managing to stay at $5 by not investing in fit out (my signage is just laminated paper and blutac) and running a tight and lean operation (we don’t hire expensive professional chefs that can hold us to ransom). Unfortunately now, I cannot avoid buying new machines at this stage.

It would be absolutely amazing if you guys can help me out. Call me stubborn/silly, but it would just break my heart to raise the prices on you guys. That is why I am asking for a fully optional donation. Help me buy new machines and I can get cracking on continuing to deliver you affordable and tasty dumplings to you in the long term. Any extra money raised will go towards building new locations (you are welcome to put down location suggestions in the comments).

Thank you very much for everything you have given us across the years. I didn’t realise how much our dumplings meant to people until the shop closed. I hope to continue serving you to the best of my ability.

Much love,

Baba Wu
