Please Help Me Help Flynn Walk Again

Donation protected
My hiking hound, foodie friend, brewery buddy and best friend Flynn became a paralysis basset hound after an injury following her attempt to jump on the bed.

She was fine at first. Then, that next morning she started whining, panting, had a complete loss of appetite and was acting lethargic. I took her to the vet and they gave her pain medication and anti-inflammatory pills for her back pain. She was getting worse throughout the day.

As she slowly walked on the grass in my parents’ yard she used her back legs and they both collapsed. Little did I know that would be the last time she walked.

She became paralysis.

Being it was a holiday I took her to the vet bright and early that next morning. After a failed attempt at acupuncture she was rushed 40 minutes away to Iowa State University’s Emergency Animal Hospital in Ames.

There she got an MRI and was diagnosed with Intervertebral Disc Disease because of the fall. A high-risk spinal surgery was needed immediately.

I’m 29. I live alone and have no family of my own except for Flynn. Before this my life consisted of bringing her everywhere I could. She personally knows all of my friends, she’s gone to work with me (almost every professional job I’ve had) and is my best friend. She is much more than a pet. Leading up to her final vet visit I slept with her on the floor. I cried so many tears as I watched her in pain. These past 48 hours have been a nightmare. Exhausted, I agreed to the surgery and anything to get her out of pain.

I thank God her surgery was successful and she is no longer in pain. After two days in the hospital she just got discharged and is on her way to recovery!

But her journey is far from over.

With a lot of love, a sling and changes to the house, she COULD be walking in eight weeks to six months.

This will be a long road to recovery. I will be by her side every step of the way, however, this is financially killing me. Since she is such a huge part of my life, really all I have, I needed to get her out of pain.

Flynn deserves to be out of pain and to have the shot of walking again. Please help me help Flynn walk again and live the happy life she once had.
