I am a mother to a six-month-old baby girl, and we have been living in extremely unsafe conditions involving severe cockroach infestation, centipede activity, and serious mold and sanitation concerns throughout our apartment. For months, I have tried everything possible to keep my daughter safe. I constantly clean, sanitize, wash clothing and bottles, inspect her belongings, and try to create a healthy environment for her, but the conditions continued to worsen. Her sleeping areas, baby items, clothing, furniture, electronics, and our daily living spaces have all been affected. I took action and brought this situation to housing court because I felt I had no other choice. I documented the conditions, reported the issues, and tried to seek help through the proper channels. However, even after taking legal action, I am still facing the reality that I may not receive help replacing the many items damaged and contaminated by these living conditions.
At the same time, my life completely changed after giving birth. Just three months postpartum, I lost my full-time job under circumstances I believe involved discrimination during one of the most vulnerable periods of my life. Since then, I have been trying to survive emotionally, financially, and mentally while caring for my infant daughter in unsafe living conditions.
This situation has taken a major toll on my mental health and daily life. I live with constant fear, anxiety, stress, exhaustion, embarrassment, and uncertainty about how I am going to safely relocate my child and replace the basic necessities we have lost. I urgently need help relocating my daughter and starting over in a safe, clean, and healthy environment.
