It's been a rough few years. Having finally gotten the job of my dreams(creating a medical service robot to help patients needing a personal touch), the startup had a hard decision between employing their junior developers or re-hiring their old systems architect to push the project forward. No ill will was shared between us, though it did leave me out in the rain at a time when companies are jittery about hiring new talent.
Four months into searching for a new job, I'm forced to accept that I won't be able to make it with what money I have left. Selling small books on the side has helped me to make rent for November, but past that... I don't know.
I'm spending upwards of 10 hours a day advancing my coding skills, sending out resumes, and working on trying to get a job in my field. Most companies want particular professional experience, and the ones that do match my portfolio haven't borne fruit.
I've spent my years trying to help others in need; teaching computer science and supporting those in need of mental care. But at the end of the day, all that can be done is shout at every job board in existence and hope to hear back.
I need time. I need money to pay those bills that can't wait until I get a job, and once rent and internet are paid for this month, I will barely have enough left to eat.
I want to work, I'm capable and willing to work, and I'm learning the skills to make me a better candidate to work. But I need some help to survive until I can get a job that isn't soul-crushing retail. (That doesn't even pay enough to live) I want to stand on my own; I want to be able to help others again. I want to be in your position now.
Please help me get there. Please help me buy time to get there.
Thank you,
Morgan Gulick
