Ian Burke - amputated before running Detroit
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Ian. I lost my leg 20 years ago just before I was supposed to run the Detroit Marathon. After years of struggle, I am returning on my 20th anniversary of my accident as a disabled racer in my first wheelchair marathon.
Over the past 20 years I have battled bipolar disorder, heart disease, obesity, and nacrosis in my leg. I also have raised 5 wonderful children, a 21, y/o and 4 teenagers as sets of twins.
I am now asking for help. The chair I am currently training in is sized and designed for a child. Its overall length is short. The seat is the wrong size and type for my body. It has a broken seat post. In short, itI need help raising the mdoes not work for me and will make it difficult for me to fulfill my goals.
While this may seem like a luxury to many, I have worked hard to model for my children and others that hard work and faith in God can help you accomplish most anything. I am doing all I can on the training part for the marathon in October, but I need help with getting the right equipment. I have worked on this model in the past through scho, work, moves, and every challenge I have faced. To continue this process I need help. Please help me purchase the equipment I need to get to Detroit. Thank you.
